What started as a rainy morning turned into a bright, joy-filled afternoon at RHA Broadway. ☀️🎉

On Friday, July 10, individuals, staff, partners and volunteers gathered for our Broadway Celebration BBQ to mark the completion of the RHA Broadway Rehabilitation Project.

This was a meaningful milestone more than two and a half years in the making. Through extensive planning, fundraising and construction, Broadway has been renewed to better meet the needs of the people who rely on it every day. For nearly 30 years, it has been a place of inclusion, growth and belonging, and these important upgrades will help ensure it remains that way for many years to come.

The celebration itself was every bit as lively as the community it brought together. The afternoon included burgers, hot dogs and popsicles, live music, dancing, games, a scavenger hunt, a photo booth, prizes, adaptive gaming with and plenty of laughs at the dunk tank.

The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of .construction, whose team brought an incredible amount of care, enthusiasm and heart to the day. We’re also grateful to Inclusion Arcade for adding such a fun and inclusive experience, and to the RHA Special Events Committee for the tremendous work that went into bringing everything together.

Most of all, thank you to every donor, partner, volunteer, staff member and supporter who helped make Broadway’s next chapter possible.

While the Broadway Rehabilitation Project is now complete, RHA’s larger $4 million Empowerment Project is still very much underway. Our attention is now turning to much-needed improvements at the Children and Youth Community Centre, and we look forward to sharing more about that work soon. 💙

Warmest thanks to everyone who joined us last night for Robin Hood Association’s 2026 AGM at the Children & Youth Community Centre.

It was a full evening of reflection, updates, community, and celebration — including a very special $50,000 gift from the Dutch Canadian Club of Edmonton in support of the Empowerment Project. This gift carries extra meaning thanks to Frank and Riek Stolk, longtime Club members whose connection to RHA stretches back decades, from their early years as House Parents to their family’s continued connection to our work.

We also shared this year’s Birdies for Kids campaign in support of important facility improvements at the CYCC, and closed the evening with the unveiling of a new mural that beautifully reflects the kids, families, staff, and partners who bring this space to life.

To our members, families, staff, board, donors, partners, and friends — whether you were with us last night or continue to support RHA in other ways, thank you for being part of this community and the work ahead.

In honour of Pride Month, we’re sharing ‘Empowerment through Advocacy’, an RHA Story about identity, disability, friendship, advocacy and belonging.

This story reflects something we believe deeply at RHA: people should be supported to live full lives as their whole selves.

That means listening when people tell us who they are, what they need, who they love, and what kind of spaces help them feel safe, valued and celebrated.

Because no one should have to separate who they are from the support they receive. And no one should have to leave their identity, relationships, or hopes outside the room.

We’re grateful to share this story, and even more grateful to the people who trusted us with it.

Have you applied for FSCD support in Alberta?

CBC News is inviting families to share their experiences with the Family Support for Children with Disabilities program — whether you’re still waiting or have received support.

RHA is sharing this opportunity for awareness, so families who wish to participate can share their perspective directly with CBC. Participation is voluntary, and CBC notes that identifying information will not be published without permission.

Link to survey:

Have you applied for support through Alberta’s FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities) program? Whether you’ve applied and are still waiting, or if you’ve gotten the help you asked for, we want to hear from you. At CBC News, we often start a reporting project with listening. Simil...

A very special moment for Justin!

Last month, Justin had the exciting opportunity to travel to Calgary to meet Jim Cummings, the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger.

After connecting through Justin’s creative content online, Justin and Jim had the chance to meet in person. Justin made the trip to Calgary for the visit, where he got Jim’s autograph and enjoyed what he called a “fantastic experience!”

Also pictured with Justin is Chris, who produces Jim’s podcast, Toon’d In!.

What an incredible day — and such a meaningful reminder of how creativity, connection, and shared interests can bring people together.

Earlier this month, at our first-ever Empowerment Gala, we premiered the first of our new RHA Stories — and many of you have asked if those videos would be shared more publicly.

Today, on the final day of World Autism Month, we’re releasing the first of them.

This first story is Christian’s.

Featuring his parents, Lisa and Kelly, it offers an honest glimpse into their family’s life, the support they found, and what began to return once that support was in place: steadiness, confidence, and hope for the future.

We’re very proud to share it.

If this story resonates with you, we invite you to consider becoming a monthly donor. Ongoing support helps sustain the kind of steady, trusted care that individuals and families rely on.

For 19 incredible seasons, James was a valued part of the Sherwood Park Crusaders family. 💚🏒

Since 2007, he served as Locker Room Attendant with pride and dedication, supporting the team behind the scenes by preparing jerseys, laundering gear, restocking supplies, filling water bottles, and helping wherever needed.

After retiring on March 26, the Crusaders honored his 19-year legacy with a special ceremonial puck drop on March 28. A beautiful tribute to someone who gave so much to the organization.

Beyond his work, James is appreciated for his humility, kindness, and the strong connections he’s built with players and coaches over the years. He’s a genuinely respected and valued part of the team.

Thank you, James, for everything — and congratulations on your retirement! 💫
