A great evening at the Her Health Matters Expo connecting with women, families, and local community partners!

Brittany and Avril were there representing Norfolk Counselling & Psychotherapy, sharing information about mental health supports available in our community, including perinatal and parental mental health care.

We’re always grateful for opportunities to reconnect with old friends, make new community connections, and help make mental health support easier to find close to home.

A little front office facelift ✨
New signage, a refreshed desk, and a few small updates to make the space feel even more welcoming.

We’re really happy with how it’s coming together — warm, fresh, and feeling a little more like us. It’s a vibe. 🤍

A few members of our team had such a lovely evening at the Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services Farm to Table Dinner at the beautiful Cranberry Creek Gardens Cranberry Creek - Private Wedding & Event Venue , with an incredible dinner by Devlin’s Country Bistro Devlin’s Country Bistro . 🤍🌾

We’re always happy to come out and support our friends at HNWS and the incredibly important work they do in our community—providing safety, crisis support, counselling, advocacy and shelter for women and children impacted by gender-based violence.

As a local mental health practice, supporting organizations doing this kind of frontline work matters deeply to us! We’re so grateful to have HNWS in our community and proud to support the work they do.

And, of course, it was pretty nice to spend an evening together outside of the therapy office too. 🤍

Thank you to HNWS, Cranberry Creek Gardens, Devlin’s Country Bistro, and everyone who helped make the evening so special.

✨ Welcome, Madison! ✨

Tomorrow is Madison’s very first day with us, and we are so excited to officially welcome her to the team! 🤍

Madison is a Master’s-level clinical counselling intern and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who works with general mental health concerns. She has a special interest in perinatal mental health, early parenthood, and supporting people through the postpartum period.

Madison brings a compassionate and client-centred approach, and we are so happy to have her joining our team.

Even better… Madison has availability beginning next week!

🌿 Individual therapy: $100/session
🌿 Reduced-rate options available— just ask.
🌿 Pro bono spaces are also available — just ask.

We truly want therapy to be accessible. If the regular student rate is still outside of what you can manage right now, please reach out. There is absolutely no harm in asking what options may be available.

We can’t wait for our community to get to know Madison. 💛

New on the Blog: Understanding Postpartum Psychosis

Postpartum psychosis is rare, but when it occurs, it is a psychiatric emergency that requires immediate assessment and treatment. Despite its severity, many parents and families have never heard of it until they’re facing it themselves. Early recognition can make all the difference.

In this blog, Avril will discuss:
• What postpartum psychosis is—and what it isn’t
• The early warning signs every family should know
• Risk factors and when symptoms most commonly appear
• How it differs from postpartum depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts
• Why compassionate, timely treatment leads to excellent recovery for most people

Avril is both a clinician and someone passionate about improving perinatal mental health care, her hope is that education helps reduce stigma, encourages earlier intervention, and reminds families that recovery is possible.

Honoured to have been invited back to speak at the 2nd Annual Melissa for Moms Golf Tournament Melissa For Mom’s , this year alongside Jodie Muir from Root & Bloom Therapy Services Jodie Muir - Brantford Therapist (Root & Bloom Therapy Services)

A heartfelt thank you to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, golfers, and everyone who made this event possible. It was a privilege to be part of a day that not only celebrates Melissa’s legacy, but continues to turn that legacy into meaningful action for families in our communities.

Together, we spoke about the importance of perinatal mental health, early support, community education, and ensuring that parents know they don’t have to navigate pregnancy and the postpartum period alone.

Every conversation, every dollar raised, and every person who leaves with a better understanding of perinatal mental health helps move us one step closer to a future where support is accessible, stigma is reduced, and no family falls through the cracks.

Thank you for including us. We are already looking forward to continuing this work together. 💙
