🌿 What does a Naturopathic Doctor actually do?
Naturopathic Doctors take a whole-person approach — looking at physical, lifestyle, and environmental factors, not just isolated symptoms.

Their training covers a broad toolkit, including:

🌱 Clinical nutrition
🌱 Botanical (herbal) medicine
🌱 Physical medicine
🌱 Acupuncture / Traditional Chinese Medicine
🌱 Lifestyle counselling
🌱 Standard diagnostic bloodwork

In Alberta, Naturopathic Doctors are a regulated health profession under the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta — meaning licensed NDs are held to defined standards of training, ethics, and ongoing competency.

A few things worth knowing:

✅ NDs can order and interpret standard bloodwork, similar to what you'd get from a medical doctor
❌ NDs do not currently have prescribing privileges in Alberta
🔄 NDs regularly refer to — and work alongside — medical doctors and other specialists when something falls outside their scope

Amazing!! Major props to City of Spruce Grove - Your Local Government the Spruce Grove Skate Park Society and especially Doug Lorenz (the man with the plan who made this happen) for seeing through this unbelievable development!! I was astonished by what was accomplished here and and am so happy to have this in spruce for our families to enjoy!! This is proof that if you can dream it, you can do it!!

✅ NDs attend 4-year, accredited naturopathic medical schools with 4,100+ hours of classroom time and 1,200+ hours of supervised clinic shifts.

✅ NDs are trained to address the root cause of illness with natural therapeutics AND use conventional medicine when called for.

✅ NDs study the same biomedical sciences as MDs and have the option to focus on areas of medicine such as endocrinology, gastroenterology, oncology, psychology, and more.
