I'm a plant lady, but do not have a green thumb. At home and in my office I have been dealing with fungus gnats from overwatering. I took time on our Snow Day to repot and break the stages of growth of the larva to adult gnat.
This has reminded me that
LESS CAN BE MORE!
Out of genuine good intentions, and love, we can try too hard and overwater ourselves. Pushing for growth beyond our readiness for change, or beyond our ability to cope can get in the way of all our work. Sometimes, we need to sit back and be patient for the growth, and to simply observe the process.
Clients can try too hard for immediate results, or spread themselves thin by trying everything and anything to feel relief. And your therapist is just like you, they can be working too hard for your results and forcing you to explore parts of yourself or your life that you aren't ready for. This is why establishing the trust between you and your therapist is crucial and allows for ongoing dialogue about the therapy process. You are learning to work together and alongside eachother.
