Hot Take: I Might Not Be Your Therapist 👀

This may sound a little strange coming from a therapist, but I won’t be the right fit for everyone, and that’s okay.

There are lots of reasons why. I tend to be more directive, and I like explaining the “why” behind things and science of the brain . My areas of focus might not be what you’re looking for. Maybe our schedules don’t line up, or my fees don’t fit your budget.

None of that is a problem. In fact, finding the right therapist matters.

Ok I may be aging myself here but Remember the story of 🧸Goldilocks? She was looking for the “just right” porridge for her.

Therapist shopping can be a bit like that. Sometimes it takes trying ( aka talking) to a few people before you find someone whose style, personality, and approach feel like the right fit.

And that’s completely okay.

My goal isn’t for everyone to work with me. It’s for people to find support that feels right for them. And if that means connecting you with someone else, I’m happy to help. 💙

What About Wednesday? 🤔

This is a question I get asked by friends, coworkers, and clients:

“When should I start therapy?”

The quick answer? Whenever you feel you need to.

Usually (not always), that’s when life starts feeling harder to carry than you’d like. Maybe something is causing distress, affecting your relationships, work, sleep, or just taking up more mental space than you want it to.

You don’t need to wait for a crisis or have some dramatic reason to go to therapy.

Sometimes it can be helpful to have someone outside your circle, a place where you can say what you need to say without worrying you’re being “too much.”

And sometimes feeling “ok” just takes time. A therapist can help you make sense of what you’re experiencing, help put some of your feelings into context, and support you through the process.

You don’t have to do it all alone, and you deserve support. 💙

One year… and I almost missed my own anniversary. 🩷

I was so busy focused on what’s next that I forgot to celebrate what already happened.

One year ago, I started my private practice. What began virtually has grown into an in-person practice, and I’m incredibly grateful for the journey.

A good reminder that sometimes growth happens and we’re so busy living it that we forget to stop and appreciate it.

Thanks to everyone who has been part of the first year.

What About Wednesdays? (on a Thursday late again😅)

Today’s question: “How long does therapy take?”

This is one of the questions I get asked most often, and the answer is: it depends.

Everyone comes to therapy with different goals, experiences, and needs. Some people are looking for support through a specific challenge, while others benefit from longer-term work and occasional check-ins.

My goal is to work myself out of a job. I want to help you build the awareness, skills, and confidence to navigate life more effectively on your own.

That said, some people value having ongoing support, and that’s okay too.

There is no “right” timeline for therapy. The process is guided by your goals, your needs, and the pace that feels right for you.

What questions do you have about therapy? Drop them below, and they may be featured in a future What About Wednesdays post!

Making sense of Patterns🔁
I try to help people understand the patterns that shape their lives.

Rather than asking “What’s wrong with you?” Together explore what you’ve learned about yourself, other people, and the world that made these patterns necessary in the first place.
Often what feels like a problem was once a solution. Shutting down , people pleasing , anxiety may once have been necessary or protective .

Together, we make sense of how these patterns developed, how they may be helping or limiting you today, and what change might look like.

Using neuroscience, attachment theory, and evidence-based approaches, therapy becomes a process of understanding-not just symptoms, but the beliefs, experiences, and learning that shaped them.

What About Wednesday 💭
(a place for the questions people quietly wonder about)

“How do I know if we’re a good match?”

This is such an important question.

That’s why I offer a free phone or video consult to see if it feels like the right fit. It’s a great place to ask questions and check the vibe.

Some call it “therapist shopping,” and honestly, that makes sense. Every therapist has a different style, personality, approach, and lived experience. For example, some are more direct while another may have a softer style . What works for one person may not be a good fit for another and that’s ok .

Sometimes the right support isn’t about finding a therapist it’s about finding the right therapist for you ❤️

I thought I’d start a new series called What About Wednesday 💭
(a place for the questions people quietly wonder about)

Questions I Get Asked as a Counsellor
The first one Id like to talk about is …
“Do you offer direct billing?”

Yes .I offer direct billing for many insurance plans in my private counselling practice. ( Ill always recommend clients check coverage first )

Honestly, it can be a lot of extra work behind the scenes because every benefits plan and provider is different.
But I continue to offer it because I want therapy to feel more accessible and less overwhelming where possible.

I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots.

Sometimes reducing even one barrier can make it easier for someone to reach out for support ❤️

❤️ Change the pattern, not the past ❤️

At its root the word healing suggests becoming “whole” again. However, therapy is often not about returning to who we were before.

Life is messy, and after loss, trauma, or major change, we don’t simply go back.Instead we change. Growth often means becoming someone slightly different, shaped by what we’ve experienced.

Therapy is more than talking. It can include tools, new coping strategies, and learning self-acceptance in the present.

In my work, I use coherence therapy, which helps uncover old emotional patterns, understand how they once served us, and help shift beliefs that no longer fit.

Maybe this isn’t about “healing” at all—but about integration, becoming, or even repatterning.

As Antonio Machado wrote: “Traveler, there is no path; the path is made by walking.”

Maybe we are not going back to who we were but learning how to live fully as who we are now.

What word fits best for you: healing, integration, becoming, or something else?

Narrative therapy is one of the approaches I use, and I think there’s something powerful about slowing down and looking at the stories we carry about ourselves.

Sometimes we end up stuck in a version of our story that was shaped by hard experiences, relationships, grief, stress, or survival. Over time, those stories can start to feel permanent or make us feel stuck in the past.

But understanding your story can also help you realize you’re not stuck in it and help to empower you for the next chapter of your life .
What word would you like title to be for the next chapter in your life ?
