A grieving body feels like a body in danger, even when the person is physically safe. Loss changes the way the nervous system reads the world, which is why ordinary tasks, when grieving, suddenly feel overwhelming and physical symptoms appear without warning.

This is not weakness, and it is not someone failing to cope. The body is working constantly to adjust to an absence that has changed its sense of safety, connection and familiarity. Supporting grief means paying attention to what the body is communicating, not only what the person is able to put into words.

Some people spend their entire lives feeling pulled toward the moments everyone else is afraid to enter. They are the ones who stay when conversations become uncomfortable, who can sit beside grief without trying to fix it, and who understand that nobody should have to face death feeling unseen or alone. If you have always felt that pull, it is not random. It's the call of the life you have been trying to find.

Becoming a Death Doula is more than learning what to do at the end of someone’s life. It is learning how to trust your presence, speak with confidence, support families through the realities of dying, and turn the depth you already carry, into meaningful work. Our course gives you the education and practical understanding to stop wondering whether you are capable and begin knowing that you are.

There will always be a reason to wait before investing in yourself, but the calling does not disappear simply because you keep putting it off. It gets louder. Life creates more moments where you start realizing this. If you can already picture yourself doing this work, serving people in this way, and finally building something that feels connected to who you truly are, this may be the moment you stop standing outside of it.

A common question I get asked is if Death Doula work is a viable income, how much can one make, and if this is something one can work in as a career for their life.

The answer is quite simply, YES!

It's true that the main focus of Death Doula work shouldn't be finances, but it is also true that our time, our resources, our education, and more, all cost money. Most Death Doulas I talk to wish they could do this for free, but in life, in the way we have created this world to work, we need to be able to take care of ourselves, feed ourselves, and pay our bills.

It isn't wrong to consider or wonder if this career path can uphold your life financially, and yes it can! We teach you in our course, not JUST the compassionate, holistic, and practical aspects of caregiving, we also teach you how to create a successful Death Doula business, with clients! We have graduates making anywhere from $35,000 - $100,000+ a year.

We cover marketing, taxes, websites, social media presence, packages, services, setting your fees, payments, and so much more! This is a one stop Death Doula College. You can also take courses to hone in and specialize on various facets of Death Doula Care. We also offer business coaching to help you get set up and have clients heading your way!

Your career starts here and grows here!

Working with the dying takes the right kind of heart. It requires a person who can become deeply connected while knowing that time will not offer them more, and who will still choose to step closer instead of protecting themselves through distance, though boundaries are a necessity as well. This work changes you because every person you support leaves something behind within you. Being a Death Doula is not about being untouched by loss. It is about allowing your heart to remain open, even when you know it will hurt, because no one should have to face the end of their life without feeling genuinely held.

The body has its own relationship with time. Birthdays, anniversaries and other meaningful dates can carry a deep emotional and energetic weight, even when a person is no longer consciously aware of the calendar. At the end of life, I have seen how people hold on for a certain day, wait for someone to arrive, or let go once an important moment has passed.

This is part of why Death Doula care looks beyond the physical process of dying. We pay attention to the person’s history, the dates that shaped their life and what may still feel unfinished. Death is not separate from the life that came before it. The body may be weakening, but spirit & energy remain present right until the end.

As a Death Doula, I see what prolonged stress can do to a person, especially when life has demanded survival for far too long. Grief, caregiving, loss, anticipatory grief and the reality of facing death can keep the nervous system in a constant state of emergency, even when we are trying to convince ourselves we are “fine.” Part of my work is helping people recognize what their body is carrying and creating space for it to come out of survival mode. We can't remove what has happened to us, we can't always stop what's happening around us, but we can support the body through it, because caring for someone through death and grief also means caring for the nervous system that has been carrying them through it.

Trauma does not stay in the past simply because an event is over. Your brain remembers what overwhelmed you, and your body will continue responding to that memory long after you are physically safe. Sometimes it responds in a positive way, other times in a debilitating way. The science behind it, and how your brain can store the memories of trauma in your grey matter, long term, is absolutely fascinating.

This matters deeply in life healing yes, but also in death and dying. As someone approaches the end of life, old trauma can surface through fear, agitation, resistance to touch, difficulty surrendering control, or reactions that seem disconnected from what is happening in the room. The body may be responding to something it learned years ago.

Part of trauma-informed end-of-life care is understanding that behaviour is communication. Instead of asking, “Why are they acting this way?” we can ask, “What is their nervous system trying to protect them from?” We cannot change what happened, but we can change what the body experiences now. Safety, choice, consent, predictability and being truly witnessed can create a very different experience at the end of life. When the body understands that it does not have to fight anymore, is when it can truly start to heal, even if that is while someone is dying.

Lately I have been seeing rainbows almost every single day. They are one of the clearest examples of how things exist around us long before we are able to see them, sometimes we never see them. The colours of a rainbow do not suddenly appear out of nowhere. The frequencies were already present within the light. Water simply creates the conditions that allow what was invisible to become visible.

Spirit communicates with us in the same way. Spirit does not always need to create something new to get our attention. It can work through what is already around us, using light, water, animals, songs, numbers, timing and synchronicities to bring something into our awareness at exactly the moment we are able to receive it.

Our own bodies work this way too. We are mostly water, and our emotions carry energy and frequency. When our awareness shines into that emotional water, things that have been sitting beneath the surface become visible. Grief. Love. Intuition. Memory. Connection. The parts of ourselves we could feel but could not yet name.

This is why I pay attention when nature behaves in a way that makes me stop. A rainbow at the right moment is more than something beautiful in the sky. It is light interacting with water and revealing what our eyes could not see before. Spirit uses the physical world in the same way, making the invisible visible long enough for us to notice.

The frequency was already there. You were simply given a moment where you could finally see it.

This is not Ai. Facebook is getting out of control. These are my pictures, writing, and content.
