Forest Therapy 🌳🌲

Research continues to show that spending time in nature can have meaningful benefits for both our mental and physical well-being. Forest therapy (also known as forest bathing in Japanese) has been linked to reduced stress (by reducing cortisol), lower blood pressure, improved immune function (increasing natural killer cells), and decreased symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Most interesting are phytoncides, natural compounds released by trees, which can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and boost the immune system.

The beauty of it? You don’t need to hike a mountain. Simply slowing down, engaging your senses, and being present during a walk in nature can make a difference. This will help with grounding techniques of the mind and increase feel-good hormones from some physical activity.

Whether it’s a neighbourhood trail, a local park, or a quiet forest path, consider making time to reconnect with the natural world. Your mind and body may thank you. 🌲

A multi-day heat event is anticipated to start today, June 29 and continue until Friday, July 3. Daytime temperatures will be in the 30s and humidex values could be in the 40s. Overnight temperatures will provide little relief.
The risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion, is higher. Take measures to protect yourself and others from over-exposure to extreme heat.

Picking Strawberries and got a sore back? 🍓

I overheard one picker say to her family “I knew this would happen, I put on my back brace and Voltaren before I started but still have a sore back”

There is no easy way about it. Bending or crouching repeatedly or for a prolonged time can create strain in the muscles and pressure on some of our joints like hips and knees.

Kneeling or crouching with an elbow on one knee can help reduce the muscle force and strain while picking from lower heights.

Gardening shouldn’t leave you aching 🌱

Your spine works just as hard as your garden, protect it.
• Bend with your hips, not your back. Use a short stool or padded kneeling position for lower tasks.
• Keep tools close to your body to avoid over-reaching. Light-weight and longer-length tools are a great option.
• Take stretch breaks every 20–30 minutes

A little awareness now will help a pain-free harvest later. 🌿💪

⛳️ Golfer’s elbow started again? Yes, me too.

The first few rounds of the season might be a bit rusty for the golf swing. This can cause extra strain on the forearm muscles and tendon on the inside of the elbow known as medial epicondylitis or epicondylopathy as the tendon changes over time to repeated stress and inflammation.

Shockwave helps improve the blood flow, reduce discomfort, and helps me continue playing the game I love.

Come see if it’s right for you!
