End of summer.

Who else is feeling the pressure to get everything organized for September, book all the haircuts, do the shopping, schedule all the appointments, plan and pay for all of the fall extracurriculars for your kids and the family?

Because, same 🙋

As a women's health-focused naturopathic doctor helping women to move beyond burnout into thriving, I urge you to consider yourself amongst all of this too.

If you are booking the checkups for your kids, remember to book your own too.
Get the blood work done.
Schedule the massage.
Hell, plan the coffee date and don't move it just because something comes up!

As caregivers and people that make things happen, it is far too easy to put our own physical, emotional and well-being needs on the back burner just because it's a busy time of year.

If you plan for fun for the kids, and have a budget set aside for all of their sports and are working overtime to squeeze in that last playdate for them.. Where can you extend that same care to yourself?

🌸 Did you know that Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) affects up to 3.7% of women globally? Here's what you need to know:

📊 POI is more common than you might think:
✅ Up to 7.5% incidence in some studies
✅ Affects 1.4% of African American & Hispanic women
✅ Higher rates among childhood cancer survivors

⚠️ Key symptoms to watch for:
🔹 Irregular or absent periods (4+ months)
🔹 Fertility challenges
🔹 Low estrogen symptoms

💡 The tricky part? Symptoms can be intermittent, making POI easy to miss! Some women may even still ovulate occasionally.

Knowledge is power! If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, don't hesitate to speak with a healthcare professional. 💜

I truly believe this.

But we often over-complicate our health by "majoring in the minors". This can look like obsessing over HIIT vs strength training vs Pilates and not actually getting started with just moving your body. Trying to over-optimize our perfect diet but forgetting that food should bring us joy. Adding more "adrenal" supplements to the cart when we need to go to sleep, move our body, eat some vegetables and have lovely things to look forward to.

THIS is the magic of building your health care team: having someone to help you reduce the friction points, remind you of your goals, clarify what to focus on and lead you through the next best moves for you. Major in the majors.

We are booking new patients for September 2026. See if our supportive, whole-person care is right for you at https://www.keilaroesnernd.com/work-with-me

💧 HYDRATION MYTHS: FACT OR FICTION? 💧

Electrolytes seem to be everywhere right now. From TikTok trends to influencer recommendations, it can feel like everyone is adding electrolyte powders to every bottle of water.

But do you actually need them?

Let's bust a few common hydration myths:

❌ Myth: Everyone needs electrolytes every day.
✅ Fact: Most healthy people can meet their electrolyte needs through food and regular hydration.

❌ Myth: More sodium means better hydration.
✅ Fact: Sodium helps with hydration, but more is not always better.

❌ Myth: Plain water isn't enough.
✅ Fact: Water is still one of the best ways to stay hydrated.

❌ Myth: Electrolytes give you energy.
✅ Fact: Electrolytes help with fluid balance and muscle function—they don't provide energy like calories do.

❌ Myth: Sports drinks are healthier than water.
✅ Fact: Many sports drinks contain added sugar and are designed for prolonged, intense exercise—not everyday hydration.

💡 The bottom line: Most people need more water, not more electrolyte powder.

Electrolytes can be helpful during long periods of exercise, heavy sweating, illness, or prolonged exposure to heat. For everyday life? Water and a balanced diet are often enough.

Let's play the "Is It Perimenopause… or Iron Deficiency?" game! 🤔

They share the SAME symptoms — fatigue, brain fog, low mood, sleep issues & anxiety — making them nearly impossible to tell apart!

⚠️ Here's what you need to know:
✔️ Iron deficiency can mimic & WORSEN perimenopause symptoms
✔️ You can be iron deficient WITHOUT being anemic
✔️ Ferritin levels below 30 µg/L can trigger symptoms
✔️ Heavy periods put you at even HIGHER risk

Don't let your symptoms be dismissed as "just hormones." Ask your doctor to check your ferritin levels — it could be a game changer! 💪

How will I know if I'm going through perimenopause?

Great question!

Perimenopause is a clinical diagnosis which means we do not necessarily need blood work to verify what we can already understand based on your menstrual cycle changes, and other symptoms that may show up even before your cycle starts to vary.

The most common earlier signs are poor quality of sleep, especially waking up around 3:00 a.m., lowered resistance to stress, more brain fog, mood swings and worsening PMS symptoms like heavier flow, premenstrual headaches, worse mood swings or fatigue.

Because perimenopause is a natural evolution or winding down of your reproductive function.. AKA puberty in reverse, our goal is not to obsessively medicalize this process, but to make sure that you are moving through it feeling like yourself. If you feel like something is off, or your symptoms are getting worse in interfering with your quality of life, please do reach out to your medical team for support.

Our evidence-based, holistic approach is called your Hormonal to Whole process and is designed to help support you through this transition, feeling calm, confident and clear about your next steps.

We are accepting new patients for September 2026 ⚡💗🤩

Menopause care is about much more than

While HRT can be an important tool for many women, comprehensive menopause care requires a deeper understanding of the whole person—not just their hormone levels.

Historically, menopause education has been limited in many medical training programs, leaving women struggling to find the support, answers, and time they need.

This is exactly why I do what I do.

My Hormonal to Whole™ Approach combines evidence-based hormonal care with a personalized plan that looks at sleep, energy, stress, nutrition, lifestyle, and overall wellbeing.

Because women deserve more than a quick appointment and a prescription.

They deserve to understand what's happening in their bodies, feel supported, and have a clear path forward.

If you're ready to regain energy, improve sleep, and feel like yourself again, I'm here to help.

I dunno, it just might work!? 🤷

Feeling heard and supported is a very important part of your health care experience.

Somebody might have all the technically correct answers to share with you, but if it is delivered in 7 minutes, without the context of your life or the clarity of understanding what your most important goals are... It's bound to land a little flat.

Shout out to the fabulous healthcare providers out there that actually take the time to listen to their patients and are providing empathetic, grounded and good medicine ❤️
