Something exciting is happening from coast to coast!๐Ÿพ๐Ÿด

Dreamcatcherโ„ข Nature Assisted Therapy is proud to be delivering TWO Animal Assisted Human Services Trainings across Canada ๐Ÿ โ€” and we couldn't be more excited about the ripple effect this will create in communities nationwide.

Our Founder, CEO & Registered Psychologist, Eileen Bona, is sharing her expertise in beautiful Nova Scotia at the sold out CCPA conference ๐ŸŒŠ โ€” and our deeply talented Clinical Manager, also a Registered Psychologist, is guiding practitioners through our transformative 3-day internship experience right here in Alberta โœจ!

This is what we live for โ€” growing a community of skilled, informed, and compassionate practitioners from across the country. More skilled humans mean more lives touched by the extraordinary healing bond between people and animals.๐Ÿ’™

We are so proud of this team and the work they carry into the world.

Registration is now open for KidCapable Summer Camp 2026 โ€” a half day nature-based therapy camp designed to support children's emotional wellbeing and social development.

Hosted at our 40-acre ranch, our half-day therapy camps provide a nurturing environment for children to build confidence, strengthen emotional regulation skills, and develop meaningful connections โ€” all through the healing power of animals and nature.

05/24/2026

Today, May 24th, is World Schizophrenia & Psychosis Day, and at Dreamcatcherโ„ข, we're using this day to shed light on one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions.

What is Schizophrenia? Schizophrenia is a serious but treatable mental health condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, and perceives the world. Common experiences can include:
๐Ÿ”น Hallucinations (hearing or seeing things others don't)
๐Ÿ”น Delusions (strongly held beliefs not grounded in reality)
๐Ÿ”น Disorganized thinking or speech
๐Ÿ”น Reduced emotional expression or motivation
๐Ÿ”น Difficulty with memory and concentration

The Facts:
๐Ÿ“Š Schizophrenia affects approximately 1 in 100 people globally
๐Ÿ“Š Symptoms most commonly emerge in late adolescence or early adulthood
๐Ÿ“Š With proper treatment, many people living with schizophrenia lead full, meaningful lives
๐Ÿ“Š Early intervention is one of the most powerful tools we have; the sooner support is accessed, the better the outcomes

Breaking the Stigma: Too often, portrayals of schizophrenia in media are inaccurate and fear-based. The reality is that people living with schizophrenia are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Stigma is one of the greatest barriers preventing people from seeking the help they deserve, and that's something we can all work to change.

What Helps? Healing is not one-size-fits-all. For many, recovery involves a combination of medication and therapy tailored to their unique needs and experiences. At Dreamcatcherโ„ข, we meet clients where they are, using creative, expressive, and evidence-based approaches to help people process their experiences in ways that feel safe and meaningful to them. Whether healing happens through conversation, movement, imagery, or something else entirely, what matters most is that it feels right for the individual.

At Dreamcatcherโ„ข, we are committed to providing evidence-based, stigma-free care for individuals experiencing psychosis and schizophrenia. Whether you're seeking support for yourself or a loved one, we're here, and we'll walk alongside you every step of the way ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ” Chickens Are Trainable (Yes, Really!) ๐Ÿ”

Think chickens are too "bird-brained" to train? Think again! These backyard birds are smart learners:

๐Ÿ”น Clicker training works! โ€“ Chickens can learn tricks using the same positive reinforcement methods as dogs โ€“ spin, jump, come when called, and more

๐Ÿ”น Treat-motivated learners โ€“ Mealworms, scratch grains, and berries make excellent training rewards. They'll work hard for their favorites and even learn to walk on a harness

๐Ÿ”น They know YOUR face โ€“ Chickens can recognize and remember over 100 individual human faces, and they definitely know who brings the treats

๐Ÿ”น Playing favorites โ€“ Your chickens know which family members feed them, handle them gently, or give the best snacks โ€“ and they'll run to those people

๐Ÿ”น Problem-solving pros โ€“ Chickens can learn to navigate mazes, pull levers for food rewards, and figure out puzzles surprisingly fast

๐Ÿ”น Memory champions โ€“ They remember training lessons for months and can even learn by watching other chickens perform tasks

๐Ÿ”นSelf-control champions โ€“ Studies show chickens can delay gratification to get a better reward โ€“ that's serious impulse control

Want a chicken that comes when called? Start with treats and patience โ€“ you might be surprised what they can learn! ๐Ÿง

Janine holds a Master of Education with a Specialization in School and Clinical Child Psychology and brings over 16 years of experience supporting children, youth, and adults across group home care, addictions, family support, and high-risk programs. Her path to Dreamcatcherโ„ข was shaped by years of volunteering with Paws for Life and the Little Bits Therapeutic Riding Association, where she witnessed firsthand the profound impact animals can have on mental health and wellbeing โ€” igniting her passion for Animal-Assisted Therapy.

She works through a cognitive behavioural, Adlerian and child-centred play therapy, and trauma-informed care approach, integrating EMDR, CBT and Trauma-Focused CBT, play therapy, animal assisted therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy into her sessions to support clients navigating anxiety, ADHD, trauma, depression, behavioural and emotional concerns, and more.

Janine is proudly NIHB approved! She also provides psychoeducational assessments, this may include cognitive, academic, and behavioural assessments with the ability to diagnose Specific Learning and Intellectual Disorders, ADHD, Depressive and Anxiety Disorders, as well as Disruptive and Impulse-Control Disorders. We are grateful to have such an inspiring therapist on our team!

๐Ÿ What Goats ACTUALLY Eat (Spoiler: Not Tin Cans!) ๐Ÿ

Let's bust some myths and talk about what these picky eaters really want:

๐Ÿ”นTaste-test everything โ€“ That thing where goats "eat" everything? They're actually using their sensitive lips and tongue to investigate, not consume

๐Ÿ”นSeriously picky โ€“ Despite the myth, goats are actually super selective and won't eat just anything. Goats reject food that's been on the ground or contaminated โ€“ they want fresh, clean browse

๐Ÿ”นVertical diners โ€“ They prefer eating at chest height or above, which is why they climb trees and stand on their hind legs

๐Ÿ”นPlant detectives โ€“ Goats can identify and avoid toxic plants and they'll seek out specific plants when they need certain nutrients

๐Ÿ”น4 Stomachs โ€“ Goats have 4 stomach compartments similar to cows. This allows them to regurgitate their rumen and allow for better digestion of their food which takes 11-15 hours to pass through their digestive system

๐Ÿ”นSensitive Bellyโ€“ Goats have very sensitive stomachs that require high-fiber diets to avoid health issues such as bloat, acidosis, scours, and indigestion. Giving free-choice baking soda (especially during feed transitions) and limiting fruits, vegetables, and grains is essential for their health

So no, your goat won't just eat anythingโ€“ they're actually gourmet diners with very specific tastes! Did any of these facts surprise you?
