Have you ever had a day where someone didn’t smile back or seemed short with you?
Our minds will quickly fill in the blanks.
“They must be upset with me.”
“I must have done something wrong.”
We carry that story for hours or sometimes days.
Then later you find out they were exhausted, worried about a loved one, or having one of the hardest days of their life.
Nothing about the situation changed.
Only your perspective did.
That’s the interesting thing about perspective. It doesn’t always change our circumstances, but it can completely change our experience of them.
The stories we tell ourselves often feel true because they’re familiar to us, not because they’re the only explanation.
Sometimes we need to pause and ask:
“Is there another way of seeing this?”
Because when the view changes, we often discover there was more than one story all along.
The view can change.
And so can your story.
