Therapists spend so much time supporting other people’s relationships.

This is an invitation to make space for yourself and your relationship-and receive CEUs while you're at it!

Hold Me Tight® with Horses is a two-day psychotherapeutic couples group for partners who want to slow down, understand their relationship patterns, and reconnect with more clarity and care.

This weekend offers something unique: the chance to experience a version of Emotionally Focused Therapy from the inside, alongside your partner, in a peaceful horse-assisted setting.

The group is small, supportive, and designed with emotional safety in mind. No horse experience is needed, all activities are ground-based, and sharing personal details “in group” is optional.

Pre-approved for 12 CEUs with CCPA.

Come as a couple. Leave with deeper insight into your own bond, and into the power of slowing the cycle down.

Brené Brown talks about the idea of generous assumptions — choosing the most generous interpretation of someone’s words, actions, or intentions, while still checking things out.

This is not about letting people off the hook.

It is not about ignoring hurtful behaviour, pretending something did not matter, or giving up your boundaries.

Generous assumptions help you pause before your nervous system fills in the blanks with the harshest story.

Instead of “they do not care,” there may be room for, “something else may be happening here, and I can ask.”

Instead of reacting from protection, you may be able to respond from curiosity.

That small pause can change the conversation.

It can help couples and families move from blame into understanding, from shutdown into dialogue, and from automatic conflict into a more grounded way of relating.

At Matatoa Counselling, therapy can help individuals, couples, and families slow down the stories they are telling themselves and begin reaching for connection with more clarity and care.

Belonging is not a luxury. It is something we are wired to need.

When we feel connected, we often feel more grounded, more resilient, and more able to move through hard things. When we feel alone, misunderstood, or stuck in the same painful patterns, even everyday stress can feel heavier.

Therapy can offer a place to slow down and look at what is happening underneath the distance, conflict, anxiety, or silence. It can help individuals, couples, and families begin to understand their patterns and find new ways of reaching for connection.

At Matatoa Counselling, support is warm, relational, and grounded in the belief that healing often happens in safe connection.

When you are ready, you do not have to figure it out alone.

Fall can be a natural time to reset.

After the busyness of summer, many couples start to notice what has been pushed aside — the missed conversations, the familiar patterns, the distance that slowly builds when life gets full.

If your relationship has been asking for more care, this may be a good season to listen.

The Hold Me Tight® with Horses retreat offers couples a peaceful weekend to slow down, understand the cycle they get caught in, and reconnect with more clarity and care.

This two-day psychotherapeutic couples group combines Emotionally Focused Therapy with gentle horse-assisted activities in a calm farm setting.

Take the Plunge

Working on your most important relationships can feel like a big step.

It can be hard to say, “We need help.”
It can be hard to slow down when the pattern feels familiar.
It can be hard to reach for someone when you are not sure how they will respond.

But summer can be a good time to pause, breathe, and make space for what matters.

At Matatoa Counselling, support is available for individuals, couples, and families who want to understand their patterns and find a clearer way forward.

If starting therapy feels hard, that makes sense.

Most people do not reach out because everything is easy. They reach out because something important feels stuck, strained, or too heavy to keep carrying alone.

At Matatoa Counselling, therapy offers a steady place to slow down and look at what is happening underneath the conflict, distance, or silence.

For some people, that means couples therapy.
For others, it means family therapy, individual support, or a group experience.

You do not need to wait until everything is falling apart.

This summer can be a time to begin gently.

The Relationship You Keep Meaning to Work On

Is there a relationship you keep meaning to put more care into?

Maybe it is your partner.
Maybe it is your family.
Maybe it is the way you show up in close relationships.

It is normal to wait until things feel calmer, less busy, or less uncomfortable. But sometimes support is what helps things begin to feel more manageable.

Therapy can offer a place to slow down, understand the pattern, and begin having the conversations that keep getting missed.

This summer, consider taking one small step toward the relationships that matter most.
