The '80s called… and our team understood the assignment! 🕺

A few of our Care At Home team members brought their best retro looks (and plenty of personality!) to Calgary for the Alberta Continuing Care Association's 2026 Conference!

The conference brought together continuing care professionals from across Alberta to connect, share ideas, and strengthen their shared commitment to providing safe, high-quality, person-centred care.

For Part 6 of our Caregiver Insights series, we asked Janine how seniors can stay socially connected.

Her advice is simple: step outside, go for a short walk, and say hello to a neighbour. 👋

It doesn’t have to be a long outing or a big social event. Even a quick conversation with someone along the way can add a little connection to the day and help brighten it.

Small moments like these are a good reminder that staying socially connected can start right outside your front door.

Today is a chance to recognize and appreciate seniors across Canada, not only for the experiences and wisdom they share, but simply for the people they are.

At Care At Home Services, we’re fortunate to spend our days supporting seniors in continuing to live life on their own terms, in the homes and communities they know and love.

Prevent the fall, but prepare for one too 🧑‍⚕️

For this Caregiver Insight, we asked José to share a home safety tip for seniors that he recommends most often.

His suggestion? Having a personal emergency response device, like Lifeline, within easy reach.

Falls and injuries can happen even when precautions are in place, and if someone is alone or unable to reach their phone, having a simple way to call for help can make a big difference. These devices connect the person with a 24/7 emergency response centre at the press of a button, and some models can even detect a fall automatically.

It’s one more way to think beyond fall prevention and make sure there’s a plan in place if something does happen.

Sometimes, caregiving starts with the people closest to us 💜

For José, that was his grandparents.

Caring for both of them through the later years of their lives was a challenging journey, but one that taught him lessons he still carries with him today: patience, empathy, and dedication.

Those experiences helped shape the kind of care José now wants to give to others. 🫶

What do you enjoy most about the work you do? Helping others, giving back to society, and making a difference.
What is your favourite hobby or pastime? Playing soccer with my kids.
Are you an early bird or a night owl? I’m an Early Bird, I usually wake up at 6:00am, have a light breakfast. I leave home to start my day at 7am.
If you could time travel what year would you want to go to? Would like to go back to 1999, my first trip to Japan. Fell in love with their culture, history and technology.

One of the biggest misconceptions about home care is that getting help means giving up independence. But good support isn't about stepping in and taking over. It's about understanding what someone can and wants to continue doing, and where a little extra help could make things easier.

That balance can look different for everyone, and it can continue to evolve as someone's needs change.
