Today, September 30, we pause to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
We recently visited the Honouring the Children Reconciliation Wall, where a Coast Salish house post carved by Xwalacktun (Rick Harry) of the Squamish Nation holds a bronze plaque in the talons of the Thunderbird. It offers a place to remember the children who survived the residential schools, the children who never returned home, and those who carry the weight of intergenerational impacts.
As a funeral service, we walk with families through loss and remembrance every day. We know how important it is to grieve, to honour those who are gone, and to be told the truth. On this day, we hold in our hearts the Indigenous children, families and communities harmed by the residential school system.
We invite you to take time today to reflect, to listen, and to learn. Wearing orange, attending a local event, or reading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action are all ways to begin.
Every Child Matters. 🧡
