Refusing the Belt

For the past number of years I've been a Fall Protection Instructor with hundreds of students under my belt. I have also been a safety professional since 2012. I thought I understood the safety culture and the mindset of workers rather well. Then I came across this video.
Today we use the argument of being tied off so you can go home to your children. Well, back during the depression when they started to built the Empire State Building March 1st, 1930 right through till May 1st 1931 workers refused the belt and being tied off so they also had the chance to go home to their children.
Yes, you read that right. watch the video. It was a real eye opener for myself.

Why did the men in the famous "Lunch Atop a Skyscraper" photo refuse to wear safety gear? The answer isn't what you think. For decades, we’ve been told that ea...

New Respirator Fit Test Wallet Cards for 2024

The New Respirator Fit Test Wallet Cards for 2024 are you out. Some things have changed, and some things have been added and some deleted. Right from the start you'll notice the background of the New Wallet Card. Sticking with the theme of this whole website, and because I'm an ex mason, A brick background has been added. In addition, The Eagle has changed again. Changing him out keeps these cards current and helps to maintain authenticity.

The same can be said for the back of the card. Now, an actual space for yours and my signatures. One of the biggest changes and was brought to my attention by clients workers, on their request. Dropped was the line for you to state what company your working at. It doesn't matter what company your with, or who is paying for the service, it's YOUR card and your name on the front and signature on the back.

In short, it's your proof that you have been properly fit tested and been given the Instructional Orientation as directed by the CSA Standards Z94.4-02. Case in point. If you were to move to another city and had to leave your place of employment, Your care goes with you.

In fact, that's completely true to be said about all your proof of training and certifications. Unless you as the worker agree to have your foreman or safety manager of the company hold them for you, all your proof of training wallet cards should be in your possession.

In an OSO (Occupational Safety Officer) from WorkSafe BC where to ask to see your proof that you have had a Respirator Fit Test for the exact respirator your using, you have to provide it. No proof = No training. That goes for Fall Protection Training, Confined Space, Scissor Lift Operations, or any other task with in your scope of work that requires annual retraining and testing.

This is by far where FreeBird Safety Services is the best place to have your Respirator Fit Testing conducted, as well as your Personal Fall Protection Training done. Unlike sao many other establishments who will just issue a carbon copy of training with everybody's name on it for your forman, We go above and beyond you the worker is protected. Even though the cost of these cards and the lamination skins const some of our proffits, Oh well.

It's always been FreeBird Safety's belief that this is the correct way to conduct safety related training. The end of 2023 is coming quick, so if you require a Respirator Fit testing or even Personal Fall Protection Training, book an appointment soon.

Apologies to Customers, New clients and returning Customers

July 19th, 2023

Apologies to customers, new clients and returning customers is in order. Over the past several months vehicle mechanical issues have plagued FreeBird Safety Services. Starting with engine problems in the cube van 2 days before Christmas of 2022 forced the purchase of a pick-up truck. That purchase turned into a very large can of worms. The result has been a series of issues with this truck that has forced repair after repair concluding with a thrown rod 2 weeks ago.

Due to the severity of these ongoing mechanical issues, FreeBird Safety had no choice but to decline contract offers and request for services. Passing customers off to our competition and colleagues. However, what matters most is client and future customers received the best safety care they can. Protection of workers and companies is all that matters.

Not being able to provide certain services that required this safety company mobility has been a disservice to our customers. For that you have our deepest apologies. As the owner of this company “FreeBird safety Services” I am truly sorry.

New Beginnings
With some sacrifices and a multitude of hours spent on instructional videos, the pick-up truck will be receiving a new powerplant. Being able to find a replacement motor was pure luck. Ford stopped production of the 4.9 300i6 engine back in 1996. Some have said “why not just replace it with a 302 V8?” Easier said than done. In order to do that the engine mounts would need to be changed, a new exhaust system would have to be purchased, and one of the biggest expenses would have been to replace the computer. To much money and time.

Finding a replacement 4.9 300i6 was the only option. One was found at FN 99 New and Used Auto Parts in Campbell River BC. With that, it will be installed this weekend of July 21st, to 23rd. After which FreeBird safety will be back on track.
