Mother Language Lovers of the World Society

MLLWS a non-profit organization which bring together various linguistic and cultural origins to celebrate their heritage and enrich multiculturalism.

Mission of MLLWS:

1. To fortify and strengthen the love for one‟s own mother language and respect for other languages.

2. To raise awareness among all people about the importance of mother language in social and cultural development.

3. To raise awareness and to build national and/or community-level capacity for inclusive education as envisioned by the UNESCO declaration on International Mother

Language.

4. To protect the minority languages, including Braille and Sign Language.

5. To build consciousness and mobilize people towards linguistic, cultural self-esteem and mutual-respect on the basis of equal rights to language and cultural heritage.

6. To ensure that all languages are treated well and that socio-economic and political systems of a country are based equal respects to all languages and linguistic diversity and without any discrimination based on race, ethnic/national origin, religion, color, sex, age, and mental or physical disability.

7. To work with all kinds of the people in the community , Government, Non-Government organizations, civil society, universities, institutions, social organizations all kinds of national and international award owners, Nobel laureates, Mother language users , religious leaders, politicians of all parties, stages and level, and people of divers world, BUT it does not have any political or religious vision of its own.

8. To run its work with the core recognition and appreciation of
a) UNESCO's declaration of IMLD (International Mother Language Day) in 1999
b) The language movement of 1952 in Bangladesh.

প্রসঙ্গ: "Festival Resolution Campaign -
Support to Establish a Permanent IMLD Public Art (Shaheed Minar) Installation in Surrey"

কয়েক দিন আগে আমাদের কমিউনিটিরই একজন আমাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আচ্ছা আমিন ভাই, MLLWS-এর Mother Language Festival-এর পোস্টারে দেখলাম, আপনারা Surrey-তে একটি Shaheed Minar-ভিত্তিক International Mother Language Day Public Art Installation নির্মাণের পরিকল্পনা করছেন। এ নিয়ে Festivalএ একটি জনসচেতনতামূলক ক্যাম্পেইন চলছে। আবার ফেসবুকে দেখেছি, City of Surrey-তে এ বিষয়ে একটি proposal presentation-ও দিয়েছেন। বিষয়টি যদি একটু পরিষ্কার করে বলতেন।”

আমি বলেছিলাম, “এর উত্তর সঠিকভাবে জানতে হলে আগে আপনাকে MLLWS এবং তাদের activities সম্পর্কে কিছুটা জানতে হবে।”

MLLWS যখনই কোনো অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে, তখন সেখানে প্রতিটি কর্মসূচির সঙ্গে একটি দীর্ঘমেয়াদি কৌশলগত (Strategic) লক্ষ্য যুক্ত থাকে। এমনকি আগামী দশ বছরের জন্য MLLWS এর একটি সুস্পষ্ট Strategic Plan রয়েছে, এবং আজকের এই Campaignটিও সেই দীর্ঘমেয়াদি পরিকল্পনার একটি ধাপ।

আপনারা জানেন, ২০০৯ সালে Bear Creek Park-এ Canada’s first International Mother Language Day Monument, Lingua Aqua প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। এটি ছিল একটি অত্যাধুনিক অডিও-ভিজ্যুয়াল এবং সম্পূর্ণ স্বয়ংক্রিয় স্থাপনা। কিন্তু দীর্ঘদিন ব্যবহারের ফলে এর Operational lifespan শেষ হয়ে যাওয়ায়, সেটি Non-functional হয়ে পড়ে। পরবর্তীতে MLLWS-এর উদ্যোগে City of Surrey-এর সঙ্গে সমন্বয় করে সেটি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে decommission করা হয়।

যেহেতু Lingua Aqua-এর স্থানটি মূলত Mother Language Monument-এর জন্যই নির্ধারিত ছিল, তাই আমরা City of Surrey-এর কাছে একটি স্থায়ী (everlasting), রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ-প্রয়োজনহীন (low-maintenance) International Mother Language Day Public Art Installation নির্মাণের প্রস্তাব দিয়েছি। আমাদের লক্ষ্য এমন একটি স্থাপনা গড়ে তোলা, যেখানে Indigenous, First Nations, immigrants এবং বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন ভাষাভাষী জনগোষ্ঠীর ভাষা ও সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য সম্মানের সঙ্গে একত্রে উপস্থাপিত হবে।

এই IMLD Public Art Installation-এর নকশাটি এমনভাবে পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছে, যার কেন্দ্রবিন্দুতে থাকবে শহীদ মিনার। International Mother Language Day (IMLD) যেমন একুশের মহান চেতনা থেকে উৎসারিত, তেমনি সেই চেতনাকে প্রজন্ম থেকে প্রজন্মে ধারণ ও লালন করে একটি জাতির আত্মপরিচয়, ইতিহাস ও সাংস্কৃতিক চেতনাকে জীবন্ত রেখেছে Shaheed Minar। IMLD আজ বিশ্বব্যাপী স্বীকৃত ও উদযাপিত। এখন আমাদের দায়িত্ব হলো এই Shaheed Minar-কেও একইসাথে IMLD-এর iconic symbol হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করা।

MLLWS-এর দীর্ঘমেয়াদি কৌশলসমুহের মধ্যে International Mother Language Day-কে একটি বার্ষিক অনুষ্ঠান থেকে যেমন শিক্ষা, আইন, গবেষণা, সংস্কৃতি এবং জনপরিসরে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করা সম্ভব হয়েছে, MLLWSএর President Hafizul Islam এবং তাঁর Executive Team মনে করেন, এই Shaheed Minarকেও IMLDর মতো সর্বজনস্বীকৃত একটি স্থায়ী বৈশ্বিক উত্তরাধিকারে (Global Legacy) রূপান্তর করা সম্ভব।

MLLWS’s Recent Legacy: Institutionalizing International Mother Language Day (IMLD) through education, and immortalizing its values through a permanent public art installation centered on the Shaheed Minar as the universal iconic symbol of IMLD.

MLLWS Birthday Statement :16 July 2026

Yesterday marked a very special and memorable occasion in the history of the Mother Language Lovers of the World Society (MLLWS).

By a happy coincidence, 16 July is the birthday of both our late Founding President, Rafiqul Islam, and our immediate Past President, Aminul Islam.

The late Rafiqul Islam served as the Founding President of MLLWS from 2012 to 2013, laying the foundation for the organization’s vision and mission. He was succeeded by Aminul Islam, who served with distinction as President from 2014 to 2026, providing dedicated leadership during a period of remarkable growth, development and international recognition for MLLWS.

On this meaningful occasion, President Hafizul Islam, together with the members of the Executive Committee, respectfully remembered and paid special tribute to both of our former Presidents. The Society expresses its profound gratitude for their invaluable contributions, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to promoting and preserving mother languages, cultural diversity, and the ideals of International Mother Language Day (IMLD).

May the legacy of the late Rafiqul Islam continue to inspire future generations, and may Aminul Islam be blessed with good health, happiness, and many more years of meaningful service to humanity.

This achievement represents a significant step forward in transforming International Mother Language Day (IMLD) from a symbolic annual observance into a sustained educational and institutional commitment.

From the implementation of the BC Model at the elementary school level to the establishment of this award at one of Canada’s leading universities, MLLWS continues to advance its vision of promoting multilingual education, cultural preservation, and inclusive communities.

The Mother Language Lovers of the World Society (MLLWS) is pleased to announce the successful completion of its leadership transition following our Special General Meeting on June 30, 2026.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our outgoing President, Mr. Aminul Islam MGC, for more than two decades of extraordinary leadership and service. His vision, dedication, and tireless efforts have helped MLLWS grow into a respected organization recognized nationally and internationally. We are grateful that he will continue serving MLLWS as Chief Advisor, providing guidance and supporting our ongoing and future initiatives.

Congratulations to our newly elected President & CEO, Mr. Hafizul Islam. Having previously served as Senior Vice President, he now takes on the responsibility of leading MLLWS into its next chapter. We wish him every success and look forward to working together to further our mission of promoting mother languages and celebrating cultural diversity.

We also sincerely thank all our respected Directors and members who joined the Special General Meeting from different parts of Canada. Your participation and continued support reflect the unity and strength of our organization.

As we begin this new chapter, we look forward to working together to continue promoting mother languages, celebrating cultural diversity, and serving our communities. We are excited to continue this journey together and to achieve even greater milestones for MLLWS in the years ahead.

প্রথমেই জাতিসংঘ সাধারণ পরিষদের ৮১তম অধিবেশনের সভাপতি হিসেবে আপনার নির্বাচনে আন্তরিক অভিনন্দন জানাই। বাংলাদেশের একজন কৃতী কূটনীতিক হিসেবে আপনার এই অর্জন শুধু বাংলাদেশের জন্য নয়, বিশ্বের বাংলা ভাষাভাষী জনগোষ্ঠীর জন্যও অত্যন্ত গৌরবের বিষয়।

আপনার নেতৃত্বে শুরু হওয়া এই অধিবেশন জাতিসংঘের বহুভাষিকতা, সাংস্কৃতিক বৈচিত্র্য এবং অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক আন্তর্জাতিক সহযোগিতার আদর্শকে আরও সুদৃঢ় করবে—এই প্রত্যাশা ব্যক্ত করছি।

এই প্রেক্ষাপটে, বিশ্বের অন্যতম বৃহৎ ভাষা বাংলা (Bangla/Bengali)-কে জাতিসংঘের দাপ্তরিক ভাষা হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি প্রদানের লক্ষ্যে একটি আন্তর্জাতিক আলোচনা ও প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করার জন্য আপনার সদয় বিবেচনা ও নেতৃত্ব কামনা করছি।

বাংলা ভাষা আজ বিশ্বের ২৫ কোটিরও অধিক মানুষের মাতৃভাষা ও যোগাযোগের মাধ্যম। এটি বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রভাষা এবং ভারতসহ বিশ্বের বহু দেশে বিস্তৃত প্রবাসী জনগোষ্ঠীর ভাষা। বক্তাসংখ্যার বিচারে বাংলা পৃথিবীর অন্যতম প্রধান ভাষা হওয়া সত্ত্বেও এখনো জাতিসংঘের দাপ্তরিক ভাষার মর্যাদা পায়নি।

বাংলা ভাষার ইতিহাস শুধু সাহিত্য, সংস্কৃতি ও মানবিক মূল্যবোধের ইতিহাস নয়; এটি ভাষাগত অধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠার ইতিহাসও। ১৯৫২ সালের ভাষা আন্দোলনে বাংলাভাষার মর্যাদা রক্ষার জন্য আত্মত্যাগের যে অনন্য দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপিত হয়েছিল, তা বিশ্বব্যাপী ভাষাগত অধিকার আন্দোলনের প্রেরণার উৎস হয়ে আছে। এই ঐতিহাসিক আন্দোলনের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ ইউনেস্কো ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিকে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে ঘোষণা করে এবং পরবর্তীতে এটি জাতিসংঘ ব্যবস্থার মাধ্যমে বিশ্বব্যাপী পালিত একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আন্তর্জাতিক দিবসে পরিণত হয়।

বাংলা ভাষাকে জাতিসংঘের দাপ্তরিক ভাষা হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি প্রদান করলে—

• বিশ্বের অন্যতম বৃহৎ ভাষাভাষী জনগোষ্ঠীর যথাযথ প্রতিনিধিত্ব নিশ্চিত হবে;
• জাতিসংঘের বহুভাষিকতা ও অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক নীতির বাস্তবায়ন আরও শক্তিশালী হবে;
• আন্তর্জাতিক পরিসরে ভাষাগত বৈচিত্র্য ও সাংস্কৃতিক সহাবস্থানের মূল্যবোধ সুদৃঢ় হবে;
• আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবসের চেতনা ও ভাষা শহীদদের আত্মত্যাগের প্রতি যথাযথ সম্মান প্রদর্শিত হবে;
• বাংলা ভাষাভাষী জনগণের জাতিসংঘ কার্যক্রমে অংশগ্রহণ ও সম্পৃক্ততা বৃদ্ধি পাবে।

আমরা উপলব্ধি করি যে নতুন কোনো ভাষাকে জাতিসংঘের দাপ্তরিক ভাষা হিসেবে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করার ক্ষেত্রে প্রশাসনিক, প্রযুক্তিগত ও আর্থিক বিষয়াদি বিবেচনার প্রয়োজন রয়েছে। তাই আমরা প্রস্তাব করছি যে আপনার সভাপতিত্বে সদস্য রাষ্ট্রসমূহ, ভাষাবিদ, নীতিনির্ধারক এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট আন্তর্জাতিক সংস্থাগুলোর অংশগ্রহণে একটি পরামর্শমূলক প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করা হোক, যাতে বাংলা ভাষাকে ধাপে ধাপে জাতিসংঘের দাপ্তরিক ভাষা হিসেবে অন্তর্ভুক্তির সম্ভাবনা মূল্যায়ন করা যায়।

একই সঙ্গে আমরা অনুরোধ করছি যে জাতিসংঘে বাংলা ভাষার ব্যবহার সম্প্রসারণ, বাংলা ভাষায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নথিপত্র ও ডিজিটাল কনটেন্ট প্রকাশ, এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবসের চেতনাকে এগিয়ে নিতে সদস্য রাষ্ট্রসমূহের মধ্যে একটি সমর্থন জোট (Coalition of Support) গঠনের বিষয়েও আপনি নেতৃত্ব প্রদান করবেন।

বাংলাদেশের একজন গর্বিত প্রতিনিধি এবং জাতিসংঘ সাধারণ পরিষদের সভাপতি হিসেবে আপনার নেতৃত্বে এই ঐতিহাসিক উদ্যোগ বৈশ্বিক সমর্থন লাভ করবে বলে আমরা বিশ্বাস করি।

বাংলা ভাষা শুধু একটি জাতির ভাষা নয়; এটি ভাষাগত অধিকার, সাংস্কৃতিক বৈচিত্র্য এবং মানব মর্যাদার এক বিশ্বজনীন প্রতীক। সেই মর্যাদাকে স্বীকৃতি দিয়ে বাংলা ভাষাকে জাতিসংঘের দাপ্তরিক ভাষা হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে আপনার সদয় সহযোগিতা ও নেতৃত্ব কামনা করছি।

আপনার সুস্বাস্থ্য, সাফল্য এবং ৮১তম অধিবেশনের সফলতা কামনা করছি।
