What does the response timing and size tell us?
A brain vital sign response is extracted from event related potentials (aka brain waves). The timing of a response (latency) is a direct indication of how quickly the brain processes information. The size of the response (in science amplitude) is a direct indication of the underlying brain activation that created the response. Both measures are complementary. For timing, faster is better (shorter latencies). Response size provides richer information reflecting the number of brain cells activating in synchrony, with higher or lower levels from the norm providing valuable insight into the underlying state of brain processing.
