When we feel stressed, overwhelmed, or disconnected, different regulation strategies can help us return to a sense of balance and safety. For some, that may look like movement, grounding, or breathwork. For others, it may involve reframing thoughts, processing emotions, setting boundaries, or leaning on supportive relationships.

When we think of stress responses, we often think of fight or flight. In reality, our nervous system has several ways of responding when it perceives danger or overwhelm.

You may notice yourself becoming defensive, avoiding difficult situations, people-pleasing to keep the peace, shutting down emotionally, or feeling stuck and unable to act. These responses are not character flaws. They are protective strategies your nervous system has developed to help you cope.

How to “feel it to heal it” 🌿

Healing is not about ignoring difficult emotions or pushing them away. Often, growth begins when we create space to notice what is happening within us with curiosity and compassion.

Somatic experiencing encourages us to slow down, tune into our bodies, and recognize the connection between physical sensations and emotions. By becoming more aware of these experiences, we can begin to process what we have been carrying and move toward healing.

Remember, healing is not about forcing emotions to surface. It is about listening to yourself gently, at your own pace, and with self-compassion.

Real therapy is not about having constant breakthroughs or always knowing exactly what to say. It is about building trust, exploring patterns, sitting with discomfort, and gradually understanding yourself in a deeper way.
