We are advising residents to take precautions during this period of extreme heat, after Environment Canada issued a heat warning for our region. 🔆

Please check in regularly on family members, neighbours & community members who may be at risk and help connect them with cooling resources and other supports.

With the increased risk for people experiencing homelessness and those living in encampments, the City has implemented additional response measures.

That includes supporting extended hours at cooling centres in the north and south cores from July 13 to July 15 at:

👉 PACE, 409 George St. – open until 10 p.m.
👉 Elevate NWO, 106 Cumberland St. N. – open until 9 p.m.

Re-sharing this Air Quality Advisory from Environment Canada:

🔥Smoke from wildfires in the area is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility.🔥

💨As smoke levels rise, health risks increase. Limit time outdoors and consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor activities and sports.

You may experience eye, nose or throat irritation, headaches, or a mild cough. Seek immediate medical attention if you have wheezing, chest pain, a severe cough, or think you are experiencing a medical emergency.

People at higher risk—including older adults, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with existing health conditions, and outdoor workers—should avoid strenuous outdoor activity and seek medical care if symptoms develop.

Winter driving can be dangerous. Do you know what to do if you’re stuck in snow?
- Try to stay calm.
- Keep the engine off as much as possible. Be aware of carbon monoxide poisoning and make sure the exhaust pipe is not obstructed by snow.
- Turn on hazard lights or set up road flares to make your car visible.
- Move your hands, feet, and arms to maintain circulation. Stay awake. Remember, don't go out in the cold. Stay in your car.
