Today is National Indigenous People’s Day! At TBNC we’re very invested in working towards Indigenous health equity.

Recently Dr. Jessica Carfagnini ND, completed her Masters in Health Sciences with specialization in Indigenous and Northern Health.

As a lifelong social justice activist, experienced clinician, and novice researcher, Jessica co-published two research articles during her time at Lakehead University.
Inclusion of Naturopaths in Northern Ontario Primary Care: A Proposed Solution for The Health Human Resources Shortage
https://candjournal.ca/index.php/candj/article/view/127

Exploring the Experiences of Indigenous Patients Accessing Naturopathic Medicine in Thunder Bay Ontario
https://jps.library.utoronto.ca/index.php/ijih/article/view/45618/34476

This learning and sharing of knowledge would not have been possible without the First Nations and Métis folks who volunteered to share their experiences in accessing naturopathic medicine. Jessica is particularly grateful for the support and collaboration of Dr. Miranda Lesperance, Dr. Johanne McCarthy ND, Dr. Helle Møller, Dr. Charles Levkoe and Alexis Starkes, MSc, RN. Dr. Jeanne Paul ND and Dr. Sarah Connors ND also kept Jessica motivated and grounded in the reasons why this work is important.

Stay tuned for updates on the advocacy work that has been the driving force behind Dr. Jessica’s research, including the CAND’s and the AFN’s work lobbying for inclusion of naturopathic medicine under the NIHB program. https://cand.ca/public-news/

IV therapy in one way to support your body during stressful times by delivering vitamins, minerals, and fluids directly into the bloodstream, allowing for efficient absorption when your system may need extra support.

Some people explore IV therapy to support:
- Energy and fatigue
- Immune system function
- complimentary cancer care
- recovery from Lyme disease, mono and other infections

At TBNC, IV therapy is thoughtfully incorporated into individualized care plans and guided by our licensed Naturopathic Doctors. If you’re curious whether IV therapy could be a helpful addition to your wellness routine, we’re here to help you explore your options.

Alongside colleague Jenni, Christy presented:
“From Then to Now: Mapping Reproductive Justice Across North America, Close to Home.”

Drawing from their experience as healthcare providers, they explored the history of reproductive justice, highlighting both the systemic barriers and the progress that has shaped access to care across North America. Their discussion also brought the conversation closer to home, addressing the realities, availability, and challenges of sexual health care in Thunder Bay and surrounding communities.

We’re honoured to have Christy representing TBNC in important conversations that support education, advocacy, and equitable access to care. 💛

Spring is a natural time to refresh what’s on your plate. After a winter of heavier comfort foods and busy schedules, this season invites lighter meals, more colour, and renewed intention around nourishment.

If you’ve been dealing with low energy, brain fog, mood changes, digestive concerns, or stubborn weight changes, it may be helpful to look a little deeper. Comprehensive lab work can help uncover nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar patterns, cholesterol levels, or hormonal imbalances that could be influencing how you feel.

Our Naturopathic Doctors and Nurse Practitioner offer individualized nutrition support and onsite bloodwork is available thorugh the NP for added convenience.
