The School of Kinesiology congratulates Shaghayegh Kiani Mehr on successfully defending the MSc thesis entitled “Effectiveness of Headgear for Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Simulation Study” on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Her thesis also successfully passed external review conducted by Dr. Jinan Fiaidhi.

Shaghayegh was supervised by Dr. Carlos Zerpa.

Shaghayech’s next goal is to continue developing her skills and gain more professional experience in Canada, whether that be through pursuing a PhD or entering the workforce.

We wish Shaghayegh well in all her future endeavours!

The School of Kinesiology congratulates Amy Brough on successfully defending the MSc thesis entitled: “The Effects of an Intensity Coaching Intervention in Pickleball on the Fitness and Well-Being of Older Adults” on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Her thesis has also successfully passed external review, conducted by Dr. Patrick Siedlecki.

Amy was supervised by Dr. Paolo Sanzo.

Amy will next be pursuing a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of Alberta, starting this September.

We wish Amy well in all her future endeavours!

This month, Lakehead Kinesiology students travelled to Costa Rica with VIDA Volunteer, serving the communities of La Cruz and Nicoya.

Working alongside local healthcare professionals, students gained hands-on experience while contributing to medical outreach initiatives. Experiences like these showcase the power of experiential learning and the impact our students can make around the world.

Building connections across borders! 🌍

Earlier this month, Dr. Kathryn Sinden, Director of the School of Kinesiology, travelled to Finland to meet with colleagues at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki and Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OAMK) in Oulu.

The visit focused on strengthening relationships between our institutions and exploring new opportunities for student and faculty exchange, collaborative teaching, and future research partnerships. Through meetings with faculty, administrators, and international partners, the trip helped lay the foundation for expanded global learning experiences for our students and enhanced international collaboration for our faculty.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and creating new opportunities for the Lakehead University School of Kinesiology community to engage with partners around the world.

Dr. Paolo Sanzo, Professor in the School of Kinesiology, recently represented Lakehead University in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, where he taught a one-week course for World Physiotherapy and is developing new research collaborations with international partners.

While abroad, Dr. Sanzo also had the opportunity to visit Shirkent National Park, home to some of the world’s most remarkable dinosaur footprints.
