Gender Equity Centre The Gender Issues Centre is a centre for all Lakehead University students.

We initiate and support positive action in relation to issues and concerns which surround gender, socio-economic status, ethnicity, religion, culture, family life, sexual orientation, gender identity and differences in physical or mental ability.

A recap for this year’s Feminisms at the Lakehead Conference 2026.

Our theme this year was Reproductive Justice Deserts: Indigenous and Q***r Futures of Care. We had some beautiful minds share their works and a wonderful community that came together to advance Feminism.

's theme for Black History Month this year is 'afrofuturism'. With this in mind, we wanted to feature a Black feminist for that inspires us to envision a more just and equitable future for Black communities. Introducing: . For this week's we wanted to focus on a key area of theory and research that is indebted to the work of Black women. Each of these resources deals with a critique of the systems of prisons and policing featuring the thinking of Black activists, scholars, and incarcerated people to challenge us to imagine a world beyond incarceration and criminal punishment. What media challenged your conception of the criminal justice system?

Moving forward we’re going to strive towards better accessibility on this account. Starting with the text of each slide posted in the comments. Are there other accessibility features that you find helpful or have implemented to success? Research will be done, but all input welcome!

“Your old pal and beloved weirdo is going to be taking on the Va**na Monologues for the second time, on Feb 15th in The Study, at Lakehead University. To commemorate, I created this drawing, and donating it to the Gender Equity Centre, and it will be raffled off for food/funds drive for the LUSU, which has been feeding extremely high numbers of students this year. All donations of non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations to purchase food will receive a ballot to win this…in advance, contact the GEC at LUSU, or just haul your b***y to the performance.”
