We are heartbroken to announce that Ian passed away on June 22, 2026, at the age of 56, after facing cancer with remarkable strength, courage, and grace at Timmins and District Hospital.
Ian was a kind and gentle soul. We are grateful for the many positive ways he touched our lives. We cherish the moments we shared with him, and he will always be remembered with love.
Ian is survived by his wife, Carolle (nee Fortier); his son, Maxime; his mother, Sandra-Lee McIntyre; and his sister, Lisa Sorensen-Bryce (Shawn). He will also be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, extended family, and many friends. His memory will remain significant in our hearts throughout our lives.
Ian was predeceased by his father, Arne Sorensen (2022); his grandmother, Oda Sorensen (2022); his grandmother, Gloria Watson (2013); and his grandfather, Carl Sorensen (1988).
Ian always enjoyed the outdoors and looked forward to spending time hunting with his best buddies. Whether it was ducks, grouse, deer, moose, or turkey, the camaraderie and memories made while hunting were among his greatest joys.
Ian was also an avid fisherman and landed many "fish of a lifetime" over the years. He took great pride in mastering the art of making jerky and other delicious treats from the wild game he harvested, a skill that family and friends greatly appreciated. An avid bridge player, Ian looked forward to his weekly games and the time he shared with fellow players. He also loved playing baseball, where he met the love of his life, Carolle. He was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ian will also be remembered for his sense of humour and his love of family and friends. Throughout his career, Ian was respected by those he worked with and was known for getting along with everyone he met.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, Ontario Health at Home and organizations involved in Ian's care, from Sudbury to Timmins, for their compassion and support.
We will carry Ian's memory forward with love and wish him eternal peace.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at LESSARD Funeral Home and Cremation Centre Inc. Remembrance donations to the Timmins and District-Oncology Department would be greatly appreciated.
