Kingston Kids Toronto East Kingston Kids provides social-emotional skill building opportunities in an inclusive and supportive environment for all children.

Themes include: Responsibility, Perseverance, Self-Control, Volume Control/Learning Body Ready, Collaboration/Cooperation, Self-Help/Independance, Emotions/Feelings, etc

We run our classes with no more than 6 children and three therapists. Michelle, Beth and myself have over 20 years experience in the field of autism and other exceptionalities

We have a WhatsApp group for each individual class that only the parents of those children access. We take pictures of the sessions so that parents can see what their children have been doing

Please note that schools often support and encourage children attending our classes. We find that many children who come to our classes welcome the break from school, the change of scenery, and a safe place to learn skills and push through challenges. If you currently have OAP funding you may use these funds for our social skills classes. Prerequisite skills needed for our social skills classes: intermediate social communication skills so that we can support further conversational and requesting skills, attending skills in order to join group time to discuss social/emotional themes. If you require transportation from your child’s school to us mid-day please let us know. We can provide transportation at $12/one-way if their school is within our pick up boundaries.

The first couple of weeks of class have been full of fun, learning and trying new things. We still have spots available and we would love to welcome your child to join us to build confidence and connection. Check out these pictures to see what the kids have been up to.

‘A child can excel at reading, math, and every academic subject in school, and still struggle badly the moment life asks something harder of them, handling conflict, tolerating disappointment, managing a big emotion without falling apart.’
At Kingston Kids we focus on the social emotional learning that is so critical for life. Contact us now to find out how we can help you and your child best.

A child can excel at reading, math, and every academic subject in school, and still struggle badly the moment life asks something harder of them, handling conflict, tolerating disappointment, managing a big emotion without falling apart.

Academic skill and emotional skill develop through completely different pathways in the mind, and schools mostly train one of them. A child can memorize a multiplication table without ever being taught what to do with anger, how to sit with disappointment, or how to repair a friendship after a conflict. Without that second skill set, the first one only carries a child so far. 🧭

Here's what actually helps. Narrate your own emotions in front of kids, "I'm feeling frustrated, so I'm going to take a breath before I respond." Let them see conflict get repaired, not just avoided. Ask "what are you feeling" as often as "what did you learn," and treat the answer with the same seriousness.

Emotional skills are trainable, the same way academic ones are, through practice and repetition, not just talent.

A child who can handle a hard emotion will go further than a child who can only handle a hard equation.

Girls group, Friday mornings Gr.3-6! Yes, we completely understand that missing school can be difficult, and we don’t take that lightly. At the same time, we feel it’s extremely important to work on skills during the day, when your children are more regulated and have not yet experienced the social exhaustion that can come with a full school day. This allows us to focus more effectively on building the skills they need to navigate social situations successfully.
