Is anxiety making it difficult for your teen to attend school?
Ontario's new school attendance requirements may be raising questions for families already navigating anxiety, school avoidance or other mental health concerns.
Attendance difficulties can have many different causes, and understanding what is getting in the way is an important part of figuring out what support may help.
Our latest blog looks at Ontario's new attendance rules, school avoidance and anxiety, and what parents may want to know.

Reassurance can make anxiety worse.

It feels helpful in the moment. Anxiety drops for a short time. Then doubt may return even stronger. This can keep the anxiety cycle active. Try a different response. Acknowledge the worry. Avoid asking for repeated reassurance. Try and stay with uncertainty instead. Make room for the uncertainty while still doing what is important to you. This can help your mind learn that anxiety can pass without constant reassurance seeking.

Reflect on how you respond to anxiety today.

Autism in adults often goes unrecognized. Many people learn to mask traits over time, which can lead to burnout and confusion about their experiences. Signs may include sensory sensitivity, social fatigue, or a strong need for routine. Gaining clarity through assessment helps you understand your patterns and needs. With insight, you can make choices that support your energy and daily functioning.

Read our March 22nd wellness blog "Signs of Autism in Adults: When It Might Be Worth Seeking an Assessment" to learn more or contact us about getting an assessment.

OCD is not about being neat or organized.

OCD involves intrusive thoughts and strong urges to reduce distress. Rituals bring short relief but can keep the cycle active. A helpful step is often response prevention. Notice the urge. Delay the ritual. Sit with the discomfort. This can help to build tolerance and reduce the hold OCD has over time.

Save this as a reminder during difficult moments.
