It’s back to school season which means busier streets, sidewalks, and crossings. Increased pedestrian traffic calls for increased safety when driving. Take extra care when passing through inside streets and school areas. Give yourself extra time to travel. And obey all traffic laws.

Late-summer weather can change quickly. Sudden rain can create more hazards on outdoor job sites including muddy, wet, and slippery surfaces.

Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the conditions, and keeping rainwear readily available can make all the difference when the forecast is uncertain.

Summer storms can change conditions in minutes.

Thunderstorms and high winds can bring reduced visibility, flying debris, slippery surfaces, and unsafe outdoor working conditions. Reviewing the forecast, securing loose items, and having a clear plan for shelter can help workers respond safely when weather shifts.

Stay alert, communicate early, and make storm preparedness part of the plan before the weather turns.

A sting will usually result in temporary pain, swelling, and redness. However, depending on a person’s allergies and where they are stung, there is still a risk of a more serious or potentially life-threatening reaction.

If you are stung while operating a vehicle, machinery, or power tools, or while working on a ladder, stop what you are doing and move to a safe position.

Assess the situation before continuing. Consider how you are reacting to the sting, whether stinging insects are still active in the area, and any other potential hazards around you. Only resume work when it is safe to do so.

Back to school season is a good time to refresh everyday safety habits.

Simple reminders such as using crosswalks, watching for traffic, wearing backpacks properly, and avoiding loose clothing on the playground can help reduce everyday risks. Adding a small first aid kit to a backpack is another practical step that supports preparedness throughout the school day.

Being prepared helps families and schools respond with more confidence when minor incidents happen.
