For Maverick and Janna's family, cooking together is about more than preparing a meal, it's about connection, culture, and celebrating moments of hope.
One of the newest recipes featured in the refreshed In the Making cookbook is Salmorejo, a traditional Spanish dish their family loves to make together. Taste tests are always encouraged, and every step in the kitchen is a chance to bond as a family of five.
After Maverick experienced an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) rupture in 2023, their family's world changed forever. During his recovery at Holland Bloorview, moments of hope began to emerge, including the day Maverick hummed along to a song in music therapy and later said, "I love you, Mama" for the first time since his surgery.
Today, gathering around family recipes like Salmorejo continues to bring joy, connection, and a sense of togetherness.
