You wake up in the middle of the night with chills, even though you’re buried in your duvet. Or, your child is crying, with a forehead that’s hot to the touch. All signs point to fever, but you’ll need to get out your thermometer to confirm.

A fever is a temporary rise in body temperature (anything over 37.6°C or 99.7°F) designed to fight off infection. Depending on the style of thermometer, you can take someone’s temperature in the ear, under the tongue, or in the armpit.

Ask our pharmacist about the correct dosing for fever-reducing medications like ibuprofen and acetaminophen, to help keep you or your family comfortable until the fever passes.

If you’re frequently hungry, often feel sluggish during the day, and struggle with constipation, you might not be getting enough fibre in your diet.

A diet rich in fibre assists with bowel regularity, lowers cholesterol levels, and helps you feel full. According to Health Canada, women need 25 grams of fibre per day and men need 38 grams daily, but many Canadians only get about half of that.

If you are struggling to reach these daily requirements, our pharmacist can help by finding a fibre supplement right for you. Stop by for personalized advice tailored to your needs.

Many people can meet their nutrient needs through diet alone, but some may benefit from a vitamin or mineral supplement.

People on restrictive diets, or with certain stomach conditions that prevent important nutrients from being absorbed, for example, might not be meeting all their nutritional needs through food. In these cases, a supplement may help.

Ask our pharmacist for advice on which supplements could be right for you.

We often think of bacteria as being bad, but probiotics are frequently called “good bacteria” because they help to keep your gut healthy. These tiny microorganisms populate the small and large intestines, supporting digestion, immune health, and more.

You can find probiotics in some foods, like yogurt and kimchi, and in supplements.

Ask our pharmacist for advice on taking a probiotic supplement.

Conjunctivitis (or “pink eye”) is an irritation and swelling of the eye. It’s one of the most common eye infections in children and adults and can be caused by a few different culprits:

If it’s caused by allergies… both eyes are likely to be red and itchy.

If it’s caused by a virus… eyes may not be itchy, but very watery and have a feeling like there’s something in the eye.

If it’s caused by bacteria… one or both eyes may have crusty or sticky eyelids, particularly first thing in the morning.

If you suspect that you or your child has pink eye, our pharmacist can help determine the cause of the eye irritation and discuss your treatment options.
