Myth: memory decline is an unavoidable part of aging that cannot be influenced.

Fact: research says otherwise. A study of more than 45,000 older adults found that social activity participation and intellectual engagement are significant predictors of cognitive function in later life. Put simply, how you spend your time matters for your brain.

Staying socially connected, mentally engaged, and physically active can support cognitive wellness at any age. Learning something new, playing a game, or having a regular conversation with a friend all count.

Tag someone who keeps their mind sharp. 🧠

As we age, the body's natural thirst signal becomes less reliable, which makes it easy to become dehydrated without realizing it. Here are three simple ways to stay on top of it.

💧 Keep a water bottle within reach throughout the day — out of sight, out of mind.

🍋 Add fruit or a squeeze of lemon for flavor — it makes water more enjoyable and easier to drink consistently.

⏰ Set a reminder on your phone or watch — a small nudge goes a long way when thirst cues are not as reliable as they used to be.

Save this post and share it with someone who could use the reminder. 📌

Healthy Aging Tip #5: Keep In Touch with Friends and Family

Social connection is one of the most powerful tools for healthy aging, and it is easy to let it slip. Reach out to a friend, neighbor, or family member you have not spoken to recently. A short conversation can lift both of your days.

Healthy Aging Tip #4: Secure Your Home

Falls are one of the most common and most preventable risks for older adults at home. Secure loose rugs, add nightlights along hallways, install grab bars in the bathroom, and keep walkways clear. Small changes make a real difference in safety and confidence.

Healthy Aging Tip #3: Eat the Rainbow

Healthy eating does not have to be complicated. Focus on variety, especially colorful fruits and vegetables that cover a wide range of nutrients. Rotate what is on your plate every few weeks and pair it with whole grains, lean protein, and low-fat dairy.

Traveling with someone in your care takes a different kind of packing list. 🧳📋✏️

Before you head out, here's what to keep top of mind:

💊 Medications — Pack more than you need, keep them in your carry-on, and bring a doctor's note for anything controlled.

🩺 Medical documents — A one-page summary of diagnoses, allergies, and emergency contacts can be a lifesaver in an unfamiliar place.

🦽 Mobility aids — Research accessibility at your destination ahead of time so there are no surprises on arrival.

🛡️ Travel insurance — Look for a policy that covers pre-existing conditions and medical evacuation.

💧 Hydration & pacing — Plan for more rest stops, more water, and a lighter daily schedule than you might normally keep.

Do you have any additional tips for packing as a caregiver? Drop them in the comments!

We want to take a moment to recognize someone who truly deserves it.

This week marks Julie Hennings' 5th anniversary with Senior Helpers!
Five years of building relationships, advocating for our clients, and helping families find the care they need — that is no small thing.

Julie, the work you do on the front end of this business — connecting families to the right support during some of the most difficult moments of their lives — is what makes everything else possible. Five years of showing up for that mission with dedication and professionalism is something we are incredibly proud of and deeply grateful for.

We are lucky to have you on this team. Thank you, Julie. Five years and counting!
