Most of us spend hours each day looking down at a phone, sitting at a desk, or driving. Over time, that forward posture can leave the upper back feeling stiff and restricted.

In this video, Alice walks through a simple thoracic spine stretch and mobility exercise designed to improve extension through the upper back while avoiding compensation through the neck and lower back.

The key isn't just bending backwards. It's engaging your core, tucking your chin, and directing the movement where it's actually needed.

If you spend most of your day sitting, this is a simple exercise you can add to your routine in just a few minutes.

Do you ever notice your upper back feeling stiff after a long day at your desk?

Last week, Sarah recommended treating my hip after finding it was affecting the way my pelvis and low back were moving.

I was hesitant.

Years ago, I'd had a low back adjustment that left my back in spasm, and I hadn't wanted to go through that again. This week, after reviewing my X-rays together, I decided to give it another chance.

What surprised me most wasn't the adjustment itself... it was how different it felt from what I had expected.

This journey is teaching me that sometimes our past experiences shape our expectations more than we realize.

Life doesn't always give us a perfect hour to focus on our health. Sometimes it's a few minutes while your child is at practice.

A short walk.
A mobility exercise.
A chance to move while you're already there.

Those little moments might not seem like much on their own, but over time they become the habits that shape how we move, feel, and live.

Wellness doesn't always ask for more time.

Sometimes it just asks us to notice the time we already have.

Sometimes stress doesn't announce itself with panic. Sometimes it shows up as poor sleep…

A tight jaw.
Shallow breathing.
A stomach that's just... off.

Our bodies often notice what our minds haven't caught up to yet.

The goal isn't to become afraid of every symptom. It's to get curious about what your body might be trying to tell you.

Have you ever noticed stress showing up physically before you realized you were stressed?

Hours at a desk, driving, scrolling, and daily life can all leave the upper back feeling stiff.

One movement Alice often uses with patients is the Thoracic Rotation Whip, designed to help improve mobility through the thoracic spine.

Better movement through the upper back can make everyday activities feel easier and can be an important part of improving posture and reducing unnecessary strain.

The right exercise depends on the person, but restoring movement where we've become stiff is often a great place to start.

If your upper back feels tight or your posture isn't what it used to be, a physiotherapy assessment can help identify what's holding you back.

When I came in, I thought we'd spend the appointment focused on my neck.

Instead, Sarah's assessment led somewhere I wasn't expecting.

She noticed my right hip wasn't moving the same way as my left and explained how that could be affecting the rest of my body.

Then I admitted something I'd been avoiding...

Years ago, after a low back adjustment, my back went into spasm. Since then, I've been hesitant to have that area treated again.

Sarah didn't pressure me. She explained a different approach and gave me something to think about.

That decision would have to wait until next week.

Most wellness routines don't fail because people don't care.

They fail because they're designed for perfect weeks, when you have plenty of time, energy, and motivation.

Real life rarely looks like that.

The Trellis approach starts somewhere different.

Instead of asking, "What's the ideal routine?", ask: "What's something I could still do on my busiest day?"

Then make that your routine. Consistency grows from actions you can return to, even when life gets busy.

What's one small habit you could keep this week?

One of the questions Diana hears most often is, "How hot are the stones?"

The answer is simpler than most people expect.

If Diana can comfortably hold the stones in her hands, they're generally at a comfortable temperature for the patient too. The goal isn't to make the stones as hot as possible. It's to use soothing warmth to help your muscles relax so treatment can be more effective.

Have you ever tried a hot stone massage?

Some of my favourite conversations at the clinic have very little to do with treatment.

They’re about routines.

Stress.
Sleep.
Movement.
Finding time for yourself.

Of course, physiotherapy, massage, chiropractic care, acupuncture and counselling can all play an important role. But we believe wellness is bigger than any one appointment.

The clinic is where we meet people.

The rest is built in the hours, days, and choices between visits.

That's why we try to promote wellness not just as a service, but as a lifestyle.

Every small step counts.

Not every physiotherapy appointment is about doing more.

Sometimes the most important part is checking how your body is responding to the plan.

In this follow-up visit, Yang reassesses knee movement and joint mobility after hearing about some discomfort first thing in the morning. Once he's confident everything is progressing as expected, the patient is cleared to continue their exercise program.

A good rehab plan isn't just about exercises. It's about making sure you're doing the right exercises at the right time.
