We are pleased to announce our upcoming physician takeover featuring Dr. Yu Fei Xia (she/her), a GP psychotherapist passionate about providing OHIP-covered group and individual psychotherapy for artists through the ups and downs of their lives and careers.

Dr. Xia’s work focuses on creating a safe and supportive space for artists to explore:

• Mindfulness and self-compassion
• Worry, self-doubt, and overwhelming emotions
• Mental health through the ups and downs of artistic careers
• Support during and after experiences with cancer

Her counselling approach is informed by modalities including CBT, IPT, and AEDP. With medical training from McMaster University and residency and fellowship training at the University of Toronto, Dr. Xia has also explored the ways in which the arts and medicine can enhance one another through projects presented nationally and at international Health Humanities conferences.

Stay tuned for her takeover on Tuesday, where she will share highlights from her day and provide a glimpse into her work supporting artists’ mental health and wellbeing!😊🌿

🎭🌎 Fantastic news! We’re gearing up for the 44th Annual PAMA International Symposium, taking place July 23–26 at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City!

This year’s theme, “From Practice to Performance: Occupational Health for Every Stage,” focuses on integrating actionable, real-world injury prevention and health management for artists.

We’re especially excited that the AHC’s Research Scientist Dr. Shelly-Anne Li will be delivering presentations and facilitating a workshop at the symposium! 🎤✨ Dr. Li’s presentation will introduce the inaugural global set of 10 healthcare professional competencies and 5 institutional responsibilities for treating and assessing musicians. ✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for Contemporary Pilates for Artists’ Health! 🧘‍♀️💙

We were delighted to welcome artists from a variety of disciplines for an afternoon of movement, mindfulness, and connection. Through breath work, functional mobility, core stability, and accessible Pilates-based movement, participants explored ways to support both their physical well-being and creative practice. 🌿✨

A special thank you to Vivianne Collins for facilitating such an engaging and inclusive workshop.

Reflecting on the experience, Vivianne shared:

💬 “One of my goals as a Pilates Instructor is to create welcoming, inclusive and accessible classes for as many groups as possible. The AHC is the ideal space to do this! During my workshop, ‘Contemporary Pilates for Artists’ Health’, I had the opportunity to teach artists of varying disciplines, ages and backgrounds, offer modifications, and help those healing from injuries. Thank you for providing artists and facilitators with a place to learn, expand, inspire and continue growing!”

We are grateful to Vivianne for sharing her expertise and to all the artists who brought their energy, curiosity, and creativity to this session. 🙌

🍂 Stay tuned! Our workshop series will be returning this fall with more opportunities to learn, connect, and support your artistic practice. We look forward to seeing you then!
