A sore ear after a week at the pool usually isn't the ear infection you're picturing.
Middle ear infections arrive with a cold. Swimmer's ear arrives with water, and it sits in the skin lining the ear canal rather than behind the eardrum. The tell is different: pulling gently up on the outside of the ear is often what hurts.
Nothing goes in the ear. No cotton swabs, no fingers. Both damage the same skin the infection is living in.
Treatment is usually prescription ear drops for 5 to 7 days. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen helps with the pain while you wait to be seen.
A painful ear needs a look from a doctor.
Better kids, better families.
