Changing the label doesn't cure the problem.

A CPBAO proposal to lower qualification standards for psychologists and psychological associates doesn't address quality access for public care. Rebranding the workforce won't help a child in crisis get an assessment faster—it only makes it harder for parents to know if their provider has the expertise they need.

Instead of lowering the bar, OPA is calling for increased funding for public hospital positions and more doctoral training spots.

"Judgement creates a boundary. Empathy is a boundary-crossing vehicle."

Is empathy just "feeling with" someone? In our latest On Psych podcast episode, Dr. Douglas Flemons (author of Empathic Engagement in Clinical Practice) challenges us to think deeper.

He joins host Dr. Jonathan Douglas to discuss why clinical empathy isn't about agreement—it's about the curiosity required to "feel into" a client's world.

The Takeaway:
➡️ Beyond Mirroring: Why "feeling understood" is more powerful than "being told you are understood."

➡️ The Ego Gap: How leaving your own history at the door prevents judgment from stalling progress.

➡️ Art vs. Science: Using "body logic" to make sense of the complex cases.

Dr. Laura Nichols is speaking out.

As we mark CMHA National , the President of the OPA highlights why our fight for professional standards is more critical than ever.

The Ontario Government is considering the CPBAO's proposal to cut training standards for psychologists and psychological associates by 75%. It's a threat to the quality of care every Ontarian deserves.
