Wow. When I turned 19 (many moons ago), I decided to get a tattoo of a yin/yang symbol inside of a sun on my back. I didn’t have a fully formed reason at the time for why I chose that image, but it somehow felt deeply meaningful.

It makes so much sense now!

I became a doula in my 30s, a very yin profession ☯️

Can’t believe my super girl is 13 today 💕

This bright, creative and fun spirit sees a rainy day as an opportunity to wear a garbage bag, lather up with dish soap, and go flying down the hill at the park with friends.

A lesson for us all. Be spontaneous! Have the adventure.

Even if you get grass stuck in your braces.

It means you were smiling the entire time!

A large number of my clients have been on a fertility journey before our work together. It is incredibly generous of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to share so openly about such a vulnerable experience that is often a silent struggle for many. And for spreading the word about about how expensive fertility treatments are.

Postpartum Psychosis is not rare. It affects 1-2 out of every 1,000 deliveries, about as prevalent as severe pre-eclampsia/HELLP Syndrome, critical congenital heart defects, multiple sclerosis, kidney disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

Calling it “rare” makes it easier to dismiss and harder to recognize. But when we talk about it accurately, we help perinatal families get the emergency care they need, faster.

Postpartum Psychosis is a medical and psychiatric emergency, and it is treatable. If you or someone you love is showing signs, call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 833-852-6262, call 911, or proceed to the nearest emergency room.

You are not alone. You are not to blame. With help, you will be well.

DONA International is proud to endorse "Partnering with Doulas in Clinical Settings," a new Committee Statement released by the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists - ACOG.

This landmark guidance recognizes doulas as valued partners in maternity care and offers a blueprint for strengthening collaboration between doulas, clinicians, and health systems. By fostering mutual respect, communication, and shared commitment to patient-centered care, ACOG outlines a path toward improving both the birth experience and maternal health outcomes.

This Committee Statement and guidelines represent the collaborative work of ACOG's Committee on Advancing Equity in Obstetric and Gynecologic Health Care together with Adetola Louis-Jacques, MD; Rolel Mbaidjol-Kabra, MD; Angela Daniel, MSSW, CLC, BDT/AdvCD (DONA); Lauren A. Graves, CD; and Averjill Rookwood Lacey, CD.

We are grateful to everyone, including our current President-Elect, who contributed their expertise and perspective to this important guidance, which reflects a shared vision for respectful, collaborative, and patient-centered maternity care.
