HUMANS OF CHI: HOLLY GILL
PROFESSIONAL DANCER + CHI CREW
I’ve been dancing since I was a child. I’d just be dancing in front of the mirror. A funny story, when I was a kid, I was walking on the boardwalk down in Halifax with my mother, and some woman came up to me, and she touched my feet and said, “You’re gonna think I’m crazy, but your child has the gift of dance.” And I wasn’t dancing or doing anything like that when she said that. She just came up. When I’m not at Chi, I’m always scheming because I am a dancer. I’m always like, “Let me book studio space…Maybe my friends want to collab on something…What’s a project that’s coming up?...How can I fit that in my schedule?...When can I condition myself?...Maybe I want to go on a new workout plan…” It’s very chaotic. There’s usually something I’m constantly trying to plan or think about. I work with a lot of sports teams as a cheerleader. More specifically, the Canadian Football League and the National Lacrosse League. I’m the type of person that doesn’t quite fit the vibe of a huge sports fan, but I really, really enjoy working in those environments, like for the Argos and for the Toronto Rocks. That’s been awesome. And then I’ve also performed on the Rogers Centre stage for Diljit Dosanjh. I was one of his backup dancers. And that show was huge. There were like 50,000 people at that show. I remember getting out on stage and doing the choreography and I’m looking at the sea of people and I’m like, “Oh my God, what’s going on?” There were pyrotechnics and flames and stuff while I was on stage too. It was really one of those moments where I’m like, “Well, I guess I’m here. I guess I’m doing the thing that I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve arrived.”
