Learn these truths before it’s too late

*Nutrition edition*

1️⃣ Stop megadosing biotin.

Most people with a reasonably balanced diet aren’t deficient in biotin. Hair loss is often linked to factors like stress, low iron, inadequate protein, hormonal changes, or something else - not a lack of biotin!

The biotin marketing was really good and it is over hyped!

2️⃣ If you’re emotionally eating, get honest with yourself.

Food can temporarily distract from stress, sadness, loneliness, or overwhelm but it is not a good coping strategy. There are much better strategies.

3️⃣ Eat for your future bone health.

Many women, especially Desi women, are low in vitamin D and calcium levels - later in your life this may cause osteoporosis and frail bones. Eat dairy products or other foods that contain calcium & vitamin D so your bones don’t deteriorate over time - this is very important.

4️⃣ Eat whole, minimally processed foods as often as possible.

Less processed food even if it’s marketed as healthy.

Not all processed food is bad - but you want to eat as much REAL food as possible.

5️⃣Don’t obsess over nutrition trends.

Every few years there’s a new “must-have” health trend. Coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, now creatine. Some have benefits, some are over-hyped but don’t over-focus on one thing… a balanced overall nutritious diet is your goal.

6️⃣Your sleep affects your weight more than you think.

Poor sleep can increase hunger, cravings, stress levels, and make healthy choices feel harder.

What do you wish someone told you sooner?

Here’s the weird stuff that worked for me to lose 10 lbs that is NOT obvious!

I struggled for a long time to lose those last 10 lbs… and I had a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nutrition!

I followed all the usual advice. I was eating “clean,” exercising regularly, and doing all the things I thought I was supposed to do… yet my weight barely budged.

What finally worked was these 3 less obvious shifts:

(If you struggle with weight loss - ask yourself if you are doing the following 3 things or not…)

1) I fully healed my relationship with food

I didn’t realize how much this was holding me back.

When I was overly restrictive and trying to eat “perfectly” all the time, it would eventually backfire. I’d feel deprived, start craving the foods I was avoiding, and end up overeating or bingeing- which would undo my progress.

The truth is, extreme restriction rarely works long-term because it fights human psychology.

2) Mindful eating : skill development

This was a game changer.

I started paying attention to my hunger and fullness cues. I ate when I was genuinely hungry and stopped when I was comfortably full.

Before that, I didn’t realize how often I was eating when I wasn’t ACTUALLY HUNGRY. I’d grab some fruit, nuts, yogurt, or other healthy snacks and think, “It’s healthy, so it’s fine.”

3) I started eating bigger meals

This sounds completely backwards, but it worked.

For years, I tried eating tiny meals and grazing throughout the day because I thought that’s what weight loss required. Just eat less. Less calories right?

That’s totally wrong.

When I started building larger meals with more protein, fiber, and vegetables, everything changed.

Sometimes the answer isn’t eating less food- it’s eating more of the right foods.

Do you struggle with weight loss? What has worked for you?

Don’t eat these foods alone!

Pair together:

Tofu with broccoli ✅

Beans with corn ✅

Carrots with olive oil ✅

Green tea with lemon ✅

These pairings give you better nutrient absorption or complete protein.

Some foods work better together 👀✨
Pairing the right nutrients can significantly increase absorption and help your body get more out of what you eat👇

🍊 Oranges + Pumpkin Seeds

Vitamin C from oranges helps enhance the absorption of iron from pumpkin seeds by converting it into a more absorbable form.

🍚 Lentils + Rice

Together, they create a complete protein by providing all 9 essential amino acids your body needs.

🍅 Tomatoes + Olive Oil

Tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that’s fat-soluble - olive oil helps your body absorb it more efficiently.

🌿 Turmeric + Black Pepper

Black pepper contains piperine, which can enhance the absorption of curcumin (the active compound in turmeric) significantly.

Carrots are healthy no matter how you eat them, but preparation makes a difference in what your body absorbs. They are packed with the superfood nutrient beta carotene - that your body converts to vitamin A.

When you cook carrots lightly (low-medium heat) with olive oil, you increase how much of that nutrient (beta carotene) your body can actually use.

Raw carrots still have benefits, but if you are aiming for better absorption, gently cooking them with a healthy fat like olive oil is an effective upgrade.

Beta carotene benefits: skin health, eye health, immunity, cell protection from oxidative damage.

Golden Turmeric Milk recipe below:

Recipe:
1 tsp ground turmeric (freshly ground is best)
1 cup milk of your choice (cow’s milk, almond milk or other)
1 tsp natural honey
Big pinch of black pepper

Add ingredients to a glass, mix well and drink.

-If 1 tsp of ground turmeric is overwhelming, you can start with 1/2 tsp ground turmeric.
-I usually warm my golden turmeric milk for 30 seconds and drink this before bed. It helps promote sleep.
Sometimes I’ll have this as a snack.

Here are the benefits of turmeric:

Helps prevent cancer and heart disease
Promotes hormone balance
Helps improve arthritis pain
Prevents (and may even help reverse) brain diseases (like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia)
Strong anti-inflammatory properties

Turmeric is rich in phytonutrients that protect the body by neutralizing free radicals (pollution, toxins, sunlight) and shielding the cells from damage.

It helps to consume this drink with black pepper, which contains piperine. Piperine is a natural substance that enhances the absorption of curcumin (turmeric’s main star compound) by 2,000%

As someone who’s always on the lookout for research-backed ways to support long-term wellness, I was intrigued by ’s - a supplement developed by Canadian scientists from the University of Toronto and approved by Health Canada.

Its key ingredient, natural astaxanthin (a powerful antioxidant derived from microalgae), has caught the attention of researchers for its broad health benefits. Astaxanthin helps neutralize free radicals and protect cells from oxidative stress, which supports clearer vision, glowing skin, heart health, strong immunity, and healthy aging. It’s often called nature’s most powerful antioxidant — shown in studies to be up to 6,000x stronger than vitamin C in combating oxidative damage 🔬🌿

I love that Astadaily is made right here in Canada 🇨🇦, extracted using a clean CO₂ process with no synthetic fillers, preservatives, or artificial colours - just a pure, science-driven formula for daily balance and vitality.

Iron Deficiency Anemia: Know the Signs
Iron is essential for oxygen delivery in your blood. When iron is low, your body struggles to deliver oxygen to tissues, which can affect your energy, focus, and overall health.

Watch out for these signs:
Fatigue, weakness, or shortness of breath
Pale skin
Heart palpitations, cold hands & feet, brittle nails
Headaches, dizziness, or brain fog

💡 If you notice any of these, get your bloodwork checked and talk to your healthcare provider.
