🦷 FEED YOUR GUMS, NOT JUST YOUR TEETH.

Your mouth is home to billions of bacteria—but not all bacteria are bad. The goal isn’t to sterilize your mouth. It’s to support a balanced oral microbiome.

What is quorum sensing?

Quorum sensing is how bacteria ā€œtalkā€ to one another. They send chemical signals to determine when there are enough of them to switch on certain behaviors—like forming biofilms, increasing inflammation, or becoming more aggressive. Certain botanicals have been studied for their ability to interfere with these bacterial conversations, helping encourage a healthier, more balanced oral environment without simply wiping everything out.

✨ Top 3 reasons to floss with Tooth Foods Flossing Serum:

1. Deliver botanicals where they matter most.
Flossing carries the serum below the gumline—the very place where plaque and harmful biofilms begin to accumulate. This allows the botanicals to come into direct contact with the tissues you’re trying to support.

2. Disrupt harmful biofilms while increasing oxygen.
Flossing removes food debris and plaque while introducing oxygen beneath the gums. Many bacteria associated with gum disease thrive in low-oxygen (anaerobic) environments, so flossing helps disturb those conditions.

3. Support healthy, comfortable gums every day.
If your gums are red, swollen, tender, or bleed when you floss, adding a serum rich in carefully selected botanicals can become part of a daily routine to help maintain a balanced oral microbiome and healthy-looking gums.

Prevention forest šŸ”„ 🌳🦌🫈

Could some forest management practices unintentionally increase wildfire risk? šŸŒ²šŸ”„

Some researchers suggest that when broad areas of understory vegetation are killed, the resulting dry plant material can become additional fuel for wildfires. Living plants contain moisture that naturally helps resist ignition, while dead vegetation may burn more readily. It’s a complex topic, and scientists continue to study how vegetation management, climate, drought, and extreme weather all interact to influence wildfire behavior.

What are your thoughts on balancing forest health, wildfire prevention, and ecosystem management?

Today one of my long-time patients came in for her 3-month implant maintenance appointment.

She feels great. No pain. No swelling. No problems.

And that’s exactly the point.

Dental implants don’t get cavities, but they can get something called peri-implantitis—an inflammatory infection around the implant that causes the bone supporting it to slowly disappear. Many people don’t realize it’s often painless in the beginning, which means damage can occur before they notice anything is wrong.

At each maintenance visit, we’re looking for the earliest signs:
✨ Bleeding around the implant
✨ Inflammation
✨ Plaque and biofilm accumulation
✨ Changes in pocket depths
✨ Bone loss risk factors

Research shows that regular supportive implant care and professional biofilm removal significantly reduces the risk of peri-implant disease and implant failure. For many implant patients, especially those with a history of gum disease, cleanings every 3-4 months are often recommended. (PMC)

As a biological dental hygienist, I see these appointments as much more than ā€œcleanings.ā€

They’re preventative medicine.

The goal isn’t simply to clean the implant. The goal is to protect the surrounding tissues, support a healthy oral microbiome, and help that implant last for decades.

The healthiest implants aren’t the ones we fix.

They’re the ones we never have to.

Have you ever been told how often your implant should be professionally maintained?
