What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting therapy is brain-body based treatment, an advanced psychotherapeautic neuroscience based approach processing life stressors and trauma. The concept of "where you look affects how you feel," recognizes that using specific eye positions, somatic awareness and mindfulness we can access a brainspot in the brain holding feelings of distress in order to process for improved mood regulation. Brainspotting helps to unwire neural pathways in the brain so that unpleasant feelings are disconnected from difficult memories by bypassing the thinking part of the brain and accessing the subcortical part of the brain (primitive part) so that the nervous system can catch up to time and space.

Brainspotting treats a wide range of emotional and physical problems and uses bilateral music which balances activation on the left and right hemisphere of the brain to calm the nervous system and process "frozen" trauma held in the brain. Experiences that are holding us back are no longer running the show.

What is EMDR? EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing is a form of psychotherapy used to treat trauma and one of the most recognized evidence-based therapeutic modalities to treat PTSD.

EMDR is effective in addressing many symptoms associated with stress and trauma including nightmares, flashbacks, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, anxiety and phobias, depression, over-reactive anger, sleep disturbance, etc. The goal of EMDR is to neutralize upsetting memories for clients. EMDR targets the elimination of symptoms associated with trauma for those clients who do not want to experience negative cognitions, emotions, or bodily reactions in connection to certain memories or do not want to be triggered by current events that may remind them of their trauma.

Amanda, Christine, Claire, and Laurie are Level 1 & 2 trained therapists in EMDR and can treat both single incident and multi-incident trauma.
