Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, knowledge, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. Celebrated on June 21—the summer solstice—this day recognizes the enduring strength, resilience, and diversity of Indigenous communities and their deep connections to family, community, land, and spirit. National Indigenous Peoples Day provides an opportunity for all Canadians to learn, reflect, and celebrate Indigenous cultures and achievements.
In hospice palliative care, we are reminded of the importance of providing culturally safe, respectful, and person-centred care that honors each person's values, traditions, beliefs, and community connections. Today, and every day, we commit to listening, learning, and advancing reconciliation in ways that support dignity, compassion, and equitable access to care for Indigenous Peoples at every stage of life.
