Meet Emma Dick, Registered Massage Therapist at Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance. 🤍

Emma's treatment style is thoughtful and thorough, tailoring pressure and technique to what each client's body actually needs that day. Whether you're managing chronic tension, recovering from an injury, or simply need a reset, she takes the time to understand the full picture before getting to work.

Clients often say sessions with Emma leave them feeling both relaxed and genuinely treated, not just rubbed down.

Sitting at a desk for most of the day takes a quiet toll on posture, even when nothing feels painful yet.

Sustained positions, like the same forward head tilt or rounded shoulders held for hours, build up tension gradually. A short break every couple of hours, with a few chin tucks, a chest stretch, and a gentle spinal rotation, helps interrupt that pattern before it turns into stiffness or discomfort.

None of this will "fix" posture on its own, and that's okay. It's about giving your body small, regular chances to reset. If neck or upper back discomfort sticks around even with breaks like this, that's usually a sign it's worth having assessed.

At Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance, we help office workers address the root cause of that discomfort, not just the symptoms.

If you're dealing with low back pain, "just rest it" is often the wrong advice. 🧠

Prolonged rest can lead to stiffness, deconditioning, and a nervous system that becomes more sensitive to movement, not less. Current evidence supports staying as active as your symptoms allow, with movement that's guided rather than avoided altogether.

At Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance, our approach to low back pain starts with identifying what's actually driving it, whether that's a joint restriction, muscular imbalance, or movement pattern that's overloading a specific area. From there, we build a plan that combines hands-on treatment with graded, appropriate movement.

The goal isn't just short-term relief. It's a back that holds up to daily life.

Curious what an acupuncture session actually looks like? Here's a peek inside the treatment room. 🌿

Fine, sterile needles are placed at specific points to influence pain pathways, reduce muscle tension, and support the nervous system's ability to regulate itself. Most clients describe the sensation as a mild pressure or tingling rather than pain, and many find the sessions deeply relaxing.

Acupuncture at Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance is often used alongside chiropractic, massage, or rehab exercise as part of an integrated recovery plan, particularly for chronic pain, tension-related conditions, and stress-related symptoms.

Tight hips are one of the most common reasons runners feel "off" without an obvious injury.

A tight hip can subtly shift your stride, your foot strike, and how evenly you load each step. On their own, these small shifts feel like nothing. Compounded over weeks of training, they're often what turns into the overuse patterns that sideline runners.

A few minutes of hip-focused mobility work before a run, like walking lunges with rotation, hip switches, and a standing figure-4 stretch, can go a long way toward keeping your stride even and your joints happy.

If tightness or pain doesn't ease up with mobility work alone, that's usually a sign there's something more specific going on and worth having assessed.

At Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance, we help runners identify what's actually driving discomfort so the fix targets the real cause.

Chiropractic care gets misunderstood a lot, so let's clear a few things up. 🦴

An adjustment isn't about "cracking your back" for the sound. It's a targeted, controlled movement applied to a specific joint to restore normal motion and reduce nervous system irritation. The sound, when it happens, is just gas releasing from the joint capsule. It has nothing to do with how effective the treatment is.

Chiropractic also isn't only for back pain. At Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance, our chiropractors treat headaches, joint restrictions, postural strain, and sports injuries, often as part of a broader plan with massage, athletic therapy, or rehab exercise.

If you've been putting off care because of a myth you picked up somewhere, this is your sign to ask us directly.

Recovery rarely comes from one person working alone — and at Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance, it doesn’t have to. 👋

Our team brings together chiropractors, registered massage therapists, an osteopath, an acupuncturist, an athletic therapist, and exercise rehabilitation specialists — all under one roof, all working toward the same goal: getting you back to the activities and the life that matter to you.

What makes a multidisciplinary approach different is the ability to treat the full picture. When your chiro, your RMT, and your athletic therapist are communicating, your care integrates rather than overlaps. The result is a recovery plan that addresses root causes, not just symptoms.

Whether you’re managing a new injury, a chronic condition, or just trying to move better — there’s someone on our team who can help.

Concussion management has changed significantly in recent years — and the "just rest until it goes away" approach is no longer what the evidence supports. 🧠

Current best practice involves early, graded return to activity guided by symptom response. Too much rest prolongs recovery. Too much too soon does the same. The window between those two extremes is where a structured protocol makes all the difference.

At Kew Gardens Health Group & Centre of Balance, our concussion management approach includes careful symptom monitoring, staged return-to-activity progression, vestibular and visual rehabilitation where indicated, and nervous system support throughout. Every step is paced to what your recovery is actually ready for.

If you or someone you care for has sustained a concussion and isn’t sure what the right next step is, we can help.

If you spend most of your day sitting, your thoracic spine — the middle and upper back — is likely losing its natural extension range. And when it does, your neck and shoulders pick up the slack. 👀

This is one of the most common root causes of chronic neck tension, upper back stiffness, and shoulder impingement: not a problem with those areas themselves, but with the thoracic mobility that supports them.

The chair thoracic extension drill is one of the most effective ways to restore that range of motion. Sit near the edge of a firm chair, hands behind your head, and gently extend back over the top of the backrest. Hold 3–5 seconds, repeat five times. Done slowly and deliberately, most people feel an immediate difference in upper back tension.
