You take up so "mushroom" in my heart.🤣🍄❣
Mushrooms are packed with nutritional value.
Low in calories and are great sources of fiber and protein.
I love mushrooms and use them in a variety of ways, in my soups & broth, in a stir fry, with rice, pasta and enjoy the occasional mushroom coffee. Yummy, I sure do love mushrooms.🍄
They also provide many important nutrients including B vitamins, selenium, potassium, copper and particularly Vitamin D when exposed to the sun.🌞
Quite impressive wouldnt you say? Today's post is all about mushrooms, get ready for some fun facts⬇️👍

🍄Health Benefits of Mushrooms⬇️

🍄Copper- helps your body make free blood cells, which are used to deliver oxygen all over the body, also this mineral is important to other processes in the body like maintaining healthy bones & nerves.

🍄Potassium- extremely important when it comes to the heart, muscles & nerve function

🍄They also contain B vitamins as well as antioxidants called selenium, which helps support the immune system and prevent damage to cells and tissue.
Antioxidants may help you live a longer, and healthier life.
A diet rich in antioxidants protect cells from free radicals, helping the body cope w/ the normal oxidative stress that damages healty cells.

🍄Mushrooms are a gut healthy food, they are prebiotic, which means they nourish, the good bacteria in your gut.
They've also been found to balance the microbiome, such as Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium.

Hello sunshine ☀ I woke up to a beautiful morning, I am looking forward to a blessed day.

I made a simple but nutritious breakfast today, it might seem boring but can I tell you just how healthy oatmeal is?

You can add whatever you want in it and take it from blah to WOW!!! 🫶🌸🎈🌸

Oats have many health benefits:‼⬇️
✔High fiber
✔Lowers cholesterol
✔Lowers blood pressure
✔Stabilizes blood sugar
✔Supports intestinal health
You can make oats in a million ways...ok..maybe not a million😏😝
Today's oatmeal has sliced strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, sprinkled ceylon cinnamon, ground flax seed, and h**p seeds.

My beverage of choice is my homemade ginger root - turmeric tea with lemon.🍋
Taking care of my liver and you☝should too. 😉
Warm lemon water first thing upon rising, 20 min before eating or having that cup of coffee. Your liver will thank you.❤

Refreshing and Energizing Drink

Start your day with a refreshing Banana Lemon Ginger Smoothie with Turmeric – a dairy-free, plant-based drink that’s quick and easy to whip up. Made with almond milk and naturally sweetened, this healthy refined sugar-free smoothie is the perfect energizing breakfast or snack!

🦋🌼🌸🌷Hello June🌷🌸🌼🦋

This is going to be an AMAZING month full of so many magical moments.❤

My beautiful granddaughter Gabby turns 2 on June 21st!🎉🥳 I love being an avoʻ( grandmother), it's one of the greatest joys. I love spending time with her, my life has different meaning.
I love playing with her, coloring, building towers with blocks, reading to her , blowing bubbles (my favorite too🤣 - you just cant ever be upset blowing bubbles, even if you say the word " bubbles", you cant help but smile)

She is starting to kick the ball around, yup soccer is starting and so many other beautiful things.

I also have another reason to be called avoʻ, I have a new grandson, Santiago, Gabbys brother, he was born April 8th. My heart is full of joy.

📍Also this month brings another challenge which is a 14 day no sugar challenge. Eversince I have been hospitalized for pneumonia twice, I have gotten serious about my health, not that I wasn't already, and obviously, being immunocompromised doesnt help, but there is always room for improvement.

We start Monday June 15!

📍My other challenge is to try and add in some rebounding everyday. I just bought one and Im ready to bounce.
Thanks to Andrea Leplae for helping me on my fitness journey.
This year has been all about some sort of body movement for 30 minutes a day, I really do love Yoga, so I'm going to incorporate some yoga postures for stretching and strengthening, rebounding for balance and moving my lymphatic system and walking everyday.

💞May is VASCULITIS month, please help me raise awareness and reach as many people as possible.💞 SWIPE-----------> 💁I wanted to share some older pictures of myself when the prednisone dosage was super high and I was my sickest🙏
✋A time when there was no internet, there was no information on Takayasu's Arteritis.
👶I was so young, a new mom and all I wanted to do was stay alive for my little girl.
🏩I was at the hospital most of my time, my days consisted of many dr appts, medical tests, medications and dealing with side effects, pain, fear and uncertainty of my future.😕
There were periods over those years where I lost my hair, lost the muscles in my legs which led to dependance of a walker, wheel chair and the help of my family.🚑
I never lost faith during all my tough times, infact my faith and courage grew stronger.
I dont feel anger towards God or the Universe but have instead developed a deeper gratification for the cross given to me to carry.🙏
💁I feel that my life purpose is clear, I am being used as an instrument to help others, to be an inspiration, to educate, motivate and empower.

This has lead me on a journey to wellness, which has led me to strengthening a deeper meaning of life, spirituality, healthy nutrition and other alternative health modalities.

We dont give up when times are tough, we stay strong and we fight.💪💪💪💪

30 years and still standing! ❤️🦋☀️

Happy Recipe Saturday 🧡
GOLDEN MILK💛⬇️
Do you know what the magic active ingredient in turmeric is?
This unique earthy taste is bright orange- yellow and is the main ingredient in curry powder.
Turmeric is also known to have been used for centuries for its many health benefits.

🔸️Antiinflammatory
🔸️Antioxidant
🔸️Improves brain function
🔸️Strong Anticancer agent
🔸️Lowers risk of heart disease
🔸️Helps arthritis
🔸️Fights aging

Here is a recipe for golden milk:

GOLDEN MILK 💛🧡

🔸️2 cups unsweetened almond milk
🔸️1/2 tsp turmeric powder
🔸️1/4 tsp cinnamon powder or 1 cinnamon stick
🔸️1 inch piece of fresh ginger or 1/8 tsp powder
🔸️Pinch of black pepper
🔸️2 tsp pure maple syrup or raw honey

Directions:
Take a small saucepan. Pour the milk and the test of the ingredients and use a whisk to combine.
Warm on low heat until nearly boiling point, making sure you dont boil it.
Adjust taste.
**If you're using a cinnamon stick and fresh ginger, remove before serving.
I prefer using fresh as it doesn't leave sediment at the bottom, but both forms are fine.

Pour and enjoy warm.🧡

Anti-inflammatory Mango Salad with Arugula, Pine Nuts, and Honey-Lime Dressing

Ingredients:

For the Dressing:
• 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
• 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
• 2 tablespoons honey
• Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Salad:
• 5 oz arugula
• 1 ripe mango, peeled, pit removed, and diced into bite-sized pieces
• 1 avocado, peeled, cored, and diced
• 1/4 cup red onions, thinly sliced
• 1/3 cup pine nuts, toasted

Directions:

1. Prepare the Dressing:
• Mix lime juice, olive oil, and honey in a small bowl until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Let it sit while you prep the salad.

2. Toast the Pine Nuts:
• Put pine nuts in a dry skillet over medium heat. Stir often until golden and aromatic, about 2-3 minutes. Take off heat and let cool.

3. Assemble the Salad:
• Toss arugula, mango, avocado, and red onions in a large salad bowl.
• Pour the honey-lime dressing over the salad and gently mix to coat everything evenly.

4. Add the Pine Nuts and Serve:
• Sprinkle the toasted pine nuts over the salad just before serving for a crunchy touch.

• Give the salad a light toss again to distribute the pine nuts.

Anti-inflammatory Foods 🔥 🔥🔥🔥

I learned a long time ago , 30 years ago to be exact, after becoming very ill with a rare autoimmune disease which had me experiencing symptoms such as extreme weakness, fatique, severe weight loss, chest pain accompanied by wheezing, shortness of breath and a cough, which would eventually lead to multiple episodes of coughing up blood and suffering a stroke that led me to believe that medicine doesnt always come from a conventional pharmacy.

Infact, it took years of suffering from" mysterious symptoms", having ambulances at my door more times than I can count, and constantly losing hope as I was sent home from hospital without answers.

It took me 3 years to get an official diagnosis.

This journey left me desperate to survive.

Some of the most powerful medicines come from the foods we eat and can be on our plates.

I personally believe that medicine does have a place, but combined with the right healthy nutrition, you can manage your symptoms and feel more vibrancy.

These antiinflammatory foods listed above have changed my life. These are some powerful foods that I consume daily.

Health update!

Colonoscopies are never fun, and most people dont like talking about it, but hey!, most of us have either already had one or are on our way to the experience.

I have had many but no matter how many times, its always such a process.

Tomorrow is my colonoscopy day so today is my prep day.

It is never fun, but I decided to face it differently this time, because its a day of fasting, only clear juices allowed, I thought that it might be a good idea to do some reflective practices.

I started my day with setting a true intention, how did I want my day to be?
I then did some grounding practices by walking barefoot on my grass in my backyard, I lit some sage and cleansed myself, and sipped on some bone broth that I prepared ahead.

I held my journal and pen in hand because I am going to write whatever comes up for me today.
