Alexis Lodge Retirement Residences

Alexis Lodge Retirement Residences Alexis Lodge is a retirement home that offers dementia care, continence care, palliative care, and g There is quite a bit of flexibility in our daily schedule.

Alexis Lodge is a retirement home located in two houses in Toronto. Our goal is to create a sense of comfort and familiarity for our residents that traditional retirement homes cannot provide. Alexis Lodge offers a non-medical program of familiar activities tailored to the individual. The staff members are non-uniformed support workers who are familiar with each resident’s history and personality.

The resident is included in the daily routines of the home as much as possible. For example, a resident who finds food preparation enjoyable and familiar, will be encouraged to participate in the kitchen, under safe supervision. If a resident needs to sleep a little longer in the morning, there will still be a fresh, piping hot breakfast waiting for them when they get up.

Protecting Your Physical Health
When you’re busy caring for someone else, your own physical health can easily move to the bottom of your priority list.
But your body needs care too.
Rest when you can. Eat nourishing meals. Stay hydrated. Move your body when possible and don’t ignore signs that you need medical attention.
Taking care of your physical health isn’t selfish. It’s essential. 🤍

Asking for Help Is a Strength
You were never meant to carry everything alone.
Asking for help does not mean you are weak or incapable. It means you recognise your limits and understand that caring for yourself is part of caring for others too.
Whether it’s asking a family member to step in, speaking to a friend or seeking professional support, remember: support is not a weakness. It is strength.
You don’t have to do it all alone. 🤍

Let Go of Guilt
Guilt is something many caregivers carry quietly.
You may feel guilty for needing a break. Guilty for feeling tired. Guilty for wanting time for yourself. But the truth is, you are human.
You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to have difficult days. You are allowed to ask for help.
Letting go of guilt does not mean letting go of love. 🤍

You Matter Too
Caregiving is an act of love, but in the middle of caring for someone else, it can be easy to forget about yourself.
This is your reminder: you matter too.
Your needs, feelings, health, dreams and wellbeing are just as important. Caring for yourself does not mean you care any less for the person you love. In fact, taking care of yourself helps you continue showing up with patience, strength and compassion.
You deserve care too. 🤍

Welcome to Alzheimer’s Awareness Month at Alexis Lodge 💜

As we step into a new month dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, we’re taking a moment to introduce the heart behind Alexis Lodge our founder, whose vision continues to shape a community built on compassion, dignity and exceptional care.

At Alexis Lodge, we believe that caring for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia goes beyond meeting their physical needs. It means creating a safe environment where every resident feels valued, respected, heard and supported, while giving families the reassurance that their loved ones are in caring hands.

This month, we’ll be sharing stories, insights, helpful information and meaningful conversations to help us better understand Alzheimer’s, support caregivers and remind our community that awareness, empathy and connection can make a difference.

💜 Here’s to a month of learning, understanding and showing up for those affected by Alzheimer’s.

Welcome to Alzheimer’s Awareness Month from all of us at Alexis Lodge.

Every throw brings more than just excitement it brings confidence, movement, and moments of connection. 🏀💚
Our residents had a wonderful time putting their aim to the test as they tossed balls into the hoop, cheering one another on with every successful shot. Activities like these help improve hand-eye coordination, encourage gentle physical activity, and keep minds engaged, all while creating an atmosphere filled with laughter and encouragement.

What a home feels like… 💛
It’s not just the walls around us it’s the laughter shared, the friendships built, the comforting moments, and the feeling of being cared for and valued.
At Alexis Lodge, home is created through connection, compassion, and the little moments that make every day special. 🏡✨

Our residents put their focus, patience, and teamwork to the test with a fun balance challenge carefully using clips to keep a ball steady on a cardboard platform. Every move required concentration, coordination, and a little strategy, turning an everyday activity into an engaging brain and body workout.
Beyond the fun, activities like this help improve fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and balance, all while encouraging laughter and friendly interaction.

Loneliness can feel heavier with age… but no one should have to feel invisible. 💛
For many elderly people, loneliness is not just about being alone. It can feel like having stories to share but no one to listen, memories to revisit but no one to laugh with, or moments where they long to feel seen, valued, and connected.
As people grow older, changes such as losing loved ones, leaving familiar environments, reduced mobility, or health challenges can make the world feel a little smaller. But a simple conversation, a warm smile, a shared activity, or a moment of genuine connection can bring comfort and remind them that they still matter.
