. Such a good word. Such a great feeling.

I had it today when a friend said to me, ‘You’re over thinking it. Focus on being a feeler, not a thinker. YES 🙌.

We all overthink at times, trying to solve a problem through action, or words, or thoughts, and so often just pushing the proverbial up hill. But when we are in , would we ever describe ourselves as over-thinking?? It’s more like feeling invigorated, consumed, enthralled, connected, don’t you think?

So next time when you say, ‘I’m over thinking this’, you absolutely are! Take a moment, check in, feel it in your body, be present. A solution so often presents itself when the mind is quiet.

I often get asked, ‘but how do I get truly present?’

Quite simply, your senses are the gateway.

🌹smell that rose
🙌 feel that tingly sensation in your hands
🐦 listen to those birds chirping near and far
🥙 taste that yummy lunch
😊 make eye contact with strangers and smile

It seems everything has ‘a day’ these days, doesn’t it 🙄?

But this is one I am very passionate about, for very good reason.

Mindfulness, practiced formally with meditation and/or taking moments of presence throughout your day, is key to leading a grounded and happy life.

After just a couple of weeks, you notice:
🧘‍♀️things don’t bother you quite so much
🧘🏽‍♂️when you’re in your head vs in reality
🧘🏽‍♀️you have more clarity
🧘🏻‍♂️you sleep better
… the list goes on. The more you practice, the more you strengthen your muscle of attention and the more profound the results become.

There is pleasure and power in being present!

We miss so many of our pleasant moments as we rush through our day.

Often when we stop to notice even a neutral experience (ie not emotionally charged), it can adopt a pleasant tone.

Doing dishes mindfully is a very different experience when you’re fully present. If you stop to notice, these tasks do seem less tedious.

How often do you purposely let go of the tension in your body?

We hold our emotions in our body. If you scan and notice any clenching, simply let it go and you’ll find the emotion tends to soften too.

It is a wonderful gateway to presence 🙌.

When we cultivate presence we natuarally start lowering the bar for joy.

It’s the simple things - watching the colours in the sky as the sun sets, the taste of a perfectly ripe strawberry, a hug with a loved one.

The art of surrender.

Nothing is what!

Resistance to what is just leads to more suffering. Relax into presence and let go of those tensed muscles. Surrender to what is.

"I'm nothing, and yet, I'm all I can think about."

This is a typical mindset of someone who is depressed. I know, because I have been there. Those ruminating thoughts that circle around and around that become more and more believable with each circuit.

Practicing mindfulness truly helps by recognizing when you're caught up in your head and returning to the present moment - stopping those ruminating thoughts in their tracks.

Boy, there was lots going on in between the ears this morning!

I’ve been meditating for a good 20 years now (periods where I’ve fallen off the wagon? Sure!) so one might expect me to be in a complete zen state when I meditate. No siree!

Often I get distracted, and then of course comes the kicker - judging myself for getting distracted. I am of course, a seasoned meditator - I should be better than that. Ha!

This is the chatter that goes on. I hear you say.. ‘So what’s the point in meditating then??’. The answer is this - you notice the chatter, the times you disappear into your head and out of presence. You smile at your mind for being oh so human. Then return to presence and live in reality a lot more of the time. That is where the joy is!

With meditation, there is no arrival. It’s a practice.

Want to trade neurosis for peace?

99% of things your mind tells you might happen DO NOT HAPPEN - but boy do we worry about those things..

What if we just relaxed and saw these (often) useless thoughts as they are.. fleeting objects of attention. Oh to be free! Oh the joy! Oh the peace!

🔑 The key is to know when you’re off in your own mind and ‘wake up’ to the beautiful, sacred present moment.

🛠 You know the tool to get you there. Meditation. It’s a practice that strengthens this very capacity to know when you are stuck in your own head.

Why not give it a go 🤷‍♀️
