Letâs talk about NICU discharge anxiety.
Your baby is medically ready to go home. That doesnât mean you feel emotionally ready, and NICU nurse Alyssa says thatâs completely normal.
If doctors felt your baby needed a monitor at home, they would order one. But plenty of parents still want extra reassurance, and as a mom herself, Alyssa gets it. Her advice is to ask yourself two questions: how will a monitor make you feel, and what would you actually do if it went off?
Thatâs why she focuses less on monitors and more on preparation. Do you know infant CPR? Do you know what to do if your baby is choking? Do you know when to call 911?
If you want to feel more confident that you could help your child in an emergency, .medical.mamas has a great infant CPR course designed by a pediatric RN.
I donât advocate for or against monitors. I'm for whatever helps you sleep well at night. For parents who get more anxious with alarms, but want instant visual reassurance, the shimmer design embedded in our sleepwear shows your babyâs breathing on your own night-vision monitor. Just a quick glance and instant peace of mind.
