Your thoughts aren’t facts but they do drive your actions. 🧠✨

When you’re in recovery, your mind can sometimes feel like a tough neighborhood to walk through alone. Automatic thoughts like “I can’t handle this stress” or “Things will never get better” can easily trigger old coping mechanisms.

That’s where Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) comes in.
Backed by decades of clinical research, DBT shows us that while we can’t always stop an intrusive thought from popping up, we can change how we respond to it. And when you change your response, you change your life.

🔄 The Power of the “DBT Shift”
DBT teaches us to notice the link between Thoughts → Emotions → Behaviors. By catching and reframing our internal dialogue, we break the automatic cycle that leads to urges and cravings:

Embracing the “And” (Dialectics): Replacing rigid, all-or-nothing thinking with balance.

❌ Old Thought: “I’m totally overwhelmed, so I might as well give up.”

✅ DBT Shift: “I feel overwhelmed, and I am capable of getting through this discomfort safely.”

Separating Fact from Feeling: Reminding yourself that a craving or uncomfortable emotion is just a wave; it rises, peaks, and passes. You don’t have to act on it.

Rewiring the Brain: Repeatedly choosing a self-supportive thought over a destructive one creates new neural pathways, making resilience your brain’s new default over time.
Small shifts in your self-talk lead to big shifts in your choices.
Give yourself permission to pause, challenge the narrative, and rewrite the story today. 🌿

📌 Save this post for a moment when you need a gentle reminder, or share it with someone walking their own recovery path!

For too long, men have been conditioned to fight their battles in silence. We treat vulnerability like a weakness, when in reality, it’s the ultimate act of courage.

Addiction loves isolation. It wants you alone in the dark. But recovery happens when we step into the light and realize we aren’t the only ones fighting this fight.

Evidence shows that men who develop a strong, affirming network of peers in recovery have significantly higher rates of long-term sobriety.

Why?

Because when you have a brotherhood that has your back, the weight of the world gets a whole lot lighter.

You don’t have to carry it all on your own.

👇 Drop a 🤝 in the comments to salute a brother who has had your back, or share this with a friend who needs to know they aren’t fighting alone.

Let’s be completely honest: walking into a summer backyard BBQ or patio gathering where everyone is holding a cold drink can feel incredibly isolating. The pressure is real, and the triggers can hit out of nowhere.

Here’s some tips to keep in mind to stay on track and stick to your recovery this summer: ⬇️

Drive yourself or have an exit strategy. Never rely on someone else for a ride if they might want to stay late. Knowing you can grab your keys and leave the second you feel uncomfortable is your ultimate safety net.

Keep a drink in your hand constantly. If you’re already holding a sparkling water, a soda, or a mocktail, it completely eliminates the awkward “Can I get you a drink?” questions from well-meaning hosts.

Set a time limit before you arrive. Tell yourself, “I am going to show up, say hello to the people I love, stay for exactly one hour, and then leave.” You get to connect without overextending your social or emotional battery.

If your summer looks a little quieter or a little more “boring” than it used to, remember: you are building a foundation for a life you can actually remember and be proud of. Keep going. 🧡

💙 June opens the door to a different kind of conversation about men’s health. Not the kind that only talks about checkups, blood pressure, testosterone, and exercise – although all of those matter. Rather, the broader topic of health – mental, emotional, and physical.

Men’s health is not only about how much a man can carry. It is also about what carrying has cost his body.

Imagine sitting here. Salt air. Quiet. Nowhere to be except present. This is what recovery can feel like — not just surviving, but actually stopping to breathe.

Recovery isn't a straight road. But every trail leads somewhere. This one leads here — to BC's Sunshine Coast, to evidence-based treatment, and to a new chapter.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day — a day to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples across Canada. We're honoured to work and heal on this land, and we raise our hands in gratitude. 🙏

As Father’s Day approaches this weekend, we are thinking of all of you and hope that you find a moment of solitude to take care of yourself and how you might receive this day.

Let’s continue to talk about to break the stigma.
