Yesterday, South Riverdale Community Health Centre (SRCHC) commemorated World Hepatitis Day with community members and partner organizations to raise awareness about Hepatitis C, reduce stigma, and share community resources and services.

Throughout the event, community members were able to access free Hep C testing and education, barbecue and snacks, and participate in giveaways.

Fifty years ago, SRCHC began as a shared dream —shaped by neighbours, advocates, and a belief that everyone deserves care, dignity, and a place to belong. What started as a bold idea quickly became something real: a community-driven space built around people, their stories, and their hopes for a healthier future.

50 Years · 50 Faces celebrates the people who bring SRCHC to life. Together, their stories reflect where we’ve been, what we care about, and where we’re headed next. We’re beginning with a handful of profiles and will continue adding new faces and stories throughout the year, building toward 50 voices that reflect the richness and diversity of our community.

Dreaming Forward ☁️➡️

For 50 years, SRCHC has been built on the belief that everyone deserves care, compassion, and a place where they belong.

This week, we're hearing from the people behind SRCHC's Hep C Program: Katie Connolly, Rohan Mohindra, Doug Belanger, Terri McMahon, Robet Sileci, and John Kelly

Together, they work alongside community members to provide outreach, education, testing, treatment navigation, and support — meeting people wherever they are on their journey. This week, our Hep C Team reflects on the future they're working toward:

"Our dream is a future where hepatitis C is no longer a barrier to health, dignity, or opportunity. We envision communities where everyone has equitable access to testing, treatment, and compassionate care — and where lived experience remains at the heart of care, guiding how we build trust, reduce stigma, and care for every person with compassion and dignity."

Join SRCHC's Hep C Team and our partners Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre , Sherbourne Health , Regent Park Community Health Centre , Unison Health & Community Services, and PASAN for a free World Hepatitis Day Community BBQ on Tuesday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Allan Gardens Conservatory.

Come together for food, connection, Hep C education, testing, and referrals to care in a welcoming, stigma-free space.

The Tai Chi program at South Riverdale Community Health Centre helps teach seniors a variation of slow, gentle movements, and physical postures in a safe and supportive environment. The program is held weekly and is led by a certified instructor, to help improve balance, flexibility and reduce the risk of falls amongst older adults.

The program is accessible to seniors of all health levels, including those who use wheelchairs and mobility scooters. In addition, the program is free and open to individuals who speak English, Cantonese, or Mandarin.

For 50 years, our community has been at the centre of everything we do.

Our 2025–26 Annual Report, Dreaming Forward: Care That Meets the Realities of People’s Lives, shares stories of connection and the people who help make our community stronger.

Meet Sultan, a dedicated volunteer at our Harmony Community Food Centre. Through community meals, gardening, food programs, and events, Sultan helps create a space where people can connect, share, and feel a sense of belonging.

For Sultan, the community food program is more than a place to volunteer — it is a place where he can contribute and continue growing with his community.

“I dream of more programs for seniors,” he shared. “My dream is to be involved in many programs in the future.”

South Riverdale Community Health Centre is celebrating 25 years of the Tamil Seniors Program at Harmony Hall this year.

The 20th Annual Vasantha Vizha takes place today, July 20, celebrating an evening dedicated to Tamil culture, community, and the contributions of our seniors through dance, drama, and musical performances.

Join us for a fun evening from 5-9 PM at the Fairview Library Theatre, located at 35 Fairview Mall Drive.

Come celebrate culture and community as we mark this unique milestone together. Refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you there! 💃

As part of our 50 Dreams series, celebrating 50 years of care and connection, we are sharing stories from our community.

Nagula Navaratnam came to Canada in her early 60s and is now 88 years old. For 25 years, she has been part of our Tamil Group.

Every week, she comes to dance, sing, learn, and spend time with friends in Tamil. These moments are about staying active and connected — and sharing in everyday joy.

“I hope more seniors like me can stay active, healthy, and connected through SRCHC’s programs in Tamil, and enjoy growing older together.”

Nagula Navaratnam is also one of the members helping plan a special milestone this year — the Tamil Group’s 25th anniversary celebration at the Fairview Library Theatre on July 20th at 5:00 p.m.
