Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and the generations who continue to carry the impacts of these systems.

As doulas, our work centres around birth, families, care and community. We also recognize that Indigenous families have experienced generations of harm through systems that disrupted birth traditions, separated families, and attempted to erase culture, language and ways of caring for one another.

Reconciliation asks more of us than acknowledgement. It asks us to listen, to learn, to challenge the systems and assumptions that continue to cause harm, and to help create spaces where Indigenous families feel respected, heard and safe in their care.

Today, we honour the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples and communities, while remembering that every child matters — yesterday, today and always. 🧡

When you hire Helping Hands, you aren’t choosing a name from a directory.

You’re choosing a doula who has been carefully selected to be part of our team.
We don’t just look at certifications or how many births someone has attended. We look at how they communicate, how they support families, how dependable they are, how they work alongside other doulas and care providers, and whether they share the values we expect from anyone representing Helping Hands.

Because being an excellent doula is about more than knowing what to do during labour or how to care for a newborn.

It’s about knowing how to care for people.
And behind every doula we introduce to a family is a team that knows them, trusts them, and stands behind the care they provide.

There’s something about the first day of school that gets us every single year.

Especially when we think about all the babies we’ve had the privilege of supporting over the years.

-Babies we rocked to sleep at 2 a.m. -Babies whose tiny hands wrapped around our fingers. -Babies we helped feed, soothe and settle while their parents caught their breath. -Babies whose families trusted us during some of the most tender days of their lives.

And somehow… some of those babies are heading off to daycare, preschool, kindergarten, high school and beyond.

To all of our Helping Hands babies heading into a new school year today, we hope you walk through those doors feeling brave, curious and so very loved.

And to the parents watching them walk away with backpacks that somehow look way too big on their little shoulders… we know it really does go that fast.

Happy first day of school to all of the little ones we’ve had the honour of watching grow. We’re still cheering you on. Always. 🩵

We support feeding your baby—not judging your choices

Think a postpartum doula isn’t worth it because you’re breastfeeding?

Here’s what overnight support actually looks like...

✨ You stay in bed sleeping while your doula listens for baby and brings them to you when it’s time to feed.
✨ Need help with positioning, latch, or figuring out what’s going on? Your doula is right there for hands-on guidance, reassurance, troubleshooting and education.
✨ When the feed is finished, you close your eyes. Your doula takes care of the diaper change, burping, settling baby back to sleep, and any soothing they need.
✨ Your water is refilled, your snack is within reach, and someone is taking care of you, too.

Breastfeeding doesn’t mean doing every part of the night alone.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t someone feeding your baby... it’s someone making sure you get back to sleep as quickly as possible.
