June is Cataract Awareness Month, and if you’re considering cataract surgery, your first step may not be the lens; it’s the surface of your eye.

A healthy tear film plays a critical role in the accuracy of surgical measurements and the quality of your vision after surgery. Untreated dry eye can impact both comfort and results.

At North Toronto Medical Optometry and Vision Care, we evaluate and treat dry eye disease before surgery to help create the best possible foundation for clearer vision.

Book your pre-surgical consultation online.

5 common eye conditions you should know about 👀
Some eye diseases develop silently—with little to no symptoms at first. That’s why regular eye exams are so important.
Here’s a quick breakdown 👇
🧠 Glaucoma
Often called the “silent thief of sight.”
No early symptoms, but can slowly take away peripheral vision and lead to permanent vision loss if untreated.
🌫️ Cataract
Clouding of the eye’s natural lens.
Leads to blurry, dim, or yellowed vision, glare, and difficulty seeing at night—but is highly treatable with surgery.
📍 Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Affects central vision.
Can cause distortion, blurry spots, and difficulty reading or recognizing faces. Early detection is key—especially for the wet type.
🩸 Diabetic Retinopathy
Linked to diabetes and often has no early symptoms.
Can progress to serious vision loss without regular monitoring and proper management.
💧 Dry Eye Disease
Very common but often overlooked.
Causes burning, irritation, and fluctuating vision—especially with screen use.
💡 The takeaway:
Just because your eyes feel fine doesn’t mean everything is fine.
📅 Routine eye exams help catch these conditions early—when treatment is most effective.

3 habits secretly worsening your digital eye strain 👀💻
Even small daily routines can overwork your eyes, reduce blinking, and increase dryness or glare exposure.

Easter post:
“Eat your carrots for good vision!” 🥕👀🐰
…we’ve all heard it—but it’s only half the story 😉
Carrots are great (hello vitamin A ✨), but they don’t magically prevent vision loss or protect against conditions like Age-related Macular Degeneration, Cataract, or Glaucoma.

🥕 What carrots do:
✔️ Support basic eye health
✔️ Help with night vision (if you’re deficient)
❌ But they’re not a one-food fix
🌈 For truly healthy eyes:
Think variety—leafy greens, fish, nuts, and colorful fruits alongside your carrots.
💡 And don’t forget:
No food replaces regular eye exams 👓

🐰 This Easter, enjoy the carrots—but give your eyes the full care they deserve!
