Today, TAIBU staff wore orange in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

We wear orange to honour the Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and stand in solidarity with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

Our orange shirts are more than a symbol, they are a reminder of our collective responsibility to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful action toward reconciliation.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, TAIBU Community Health Centre honours the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, their families, and Indigenous communities across Turtle Island.

As an organization rooted in serving Black communities, we recognize the shared realities of colonialism, systemic racism, displacement, and the ongoing fight for justice. At the same time, we honour the distinct histories, experiences, rights, and ongoing impacts of colonial violence faced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Reconciliation requires more than reflection, it calls for listening, learning, accountability, and action. Today and every day, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and remain committed to building a future rooted in truth, dignity, justice, and collective healing.

The Black Canadian Mental Health Crisis Response Initiative at the University of Toronto is seeking focus group participants to share their experiences, knowledge, and perspectives on Black mental health care in Canada.

The research will explore both police-led and community-led mental health responses, while creating space for Black community members to identify where mental health care is falling short and where meaningful improvements can be made.

To participate, you must:
• Identify as a Black individual living in Canada
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Have perspectives or insight on Black mental health
💬 Focus groups are confidential
📍 Available in person or via Zoom
💵 Participants will receive $100 compensation

Our Annual General Meeting was an opportunity to come together, reflect on how far we’ve come, celebrate the people who make this work possible, and look ahead to where we’re going next.

Guided by our theme, Rooted. Standing Firm. Rising., we celebrated the strength of our roots, our commitment to standing firm for the health and well-being of Black communities, and our vision for continuing to rise together.
