As we grow older, our bodies undergo changes, including the loss of bone and muscle mass. Staying active through exercise is crucial for maintaining overall health and independence during the aging process. Yet, there is still uncertainty regarding the most effective types and intensity of exercises for preventing bone loss in individuals with osteoporosis or low bone mineral density.

In this research study, we aim to address these uncertainties by comparing three distinct types of exercises. Our goal is to provide valuable insights that will shape exercise recommendations specifically tailored to individuals dealing with osteoporosis or low bone mineral density. Your participation can help us create a brighter and healthier future for those affected by these conditions.

Protect your bones and build muscle strength while staying fit, active and healthy through daily exercise.

Bone-strengthening activities like running, jumping rope or lifting weights promote bone growth and strength.

Muscle strengthening activities like strength and resistance training or heavy gardening improve endurance, power and mass.

150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week is recommended for adults aged 18-64. How are you staying active today?

"This study has implications for people on Earth as well. As we become more sedentary, doing virtual meetings in front of a computer, the effect of 'less weight bearing' will affect our bone health," Dr. Cheung said. "Microgravity (in space) is just the extreme. This can happen to healthy (and very fit) men and women, so it can happen to anyone."

New data about the detrimental effects of zero gravity on the skeleton could have clinical implications for osteoporosis and other rheumatic conditions.

One of the most important things you can do to help prevent osteoporosis is to improve your diet.

Paying close attention to your diet and ensuring that your body receives the proper nutrients, vitamins, and energy can aid in the development of strong and healthy bones.

Calcium, vitamin D, protein, and phosphorus are some nutritional areas you can focus on.
