An important message about retirement from Ivan Muller. Ivan lives in a Viva retirement community and has some excellent ideas to share about how seniors' lives can be improved, especially in assisted living facilities.

What does it mean to be an Elder, and what role can Elders play in strengthening our communities?

Join the Toronto Council on Aging for The Power of the Elder: Culture, Community & the Role of Older Adults, a virtual presentation and conversation with Eli Anderson, Director of StoryAID.

Drawing on his work with African diaspora communities, Eli will explore how culture, identity, social conditions, and intergenerational relationships shape the experience of aging. The conversation will also highlight the knowledge, experience, and leadership older adults bring to their families and communities.

This session invites us to recognize older adults not only as recipients of services and care, but also as knowledge holders, community leaders, and contributors to stronger, more connected communities.

What an incredible turnout!

More than 80 people joined us for the No More Silent Battles film screening and community conversation on dementia, exceeding our expectations and showing how important it is to create spaces where people can learn, share their experiences and have open conversations about dementia.

We sincerely thank our event partners, No More Silent Battles, People Ops Collective, Piat Public Health and St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, for helping bring this meaningful event together.

We are also grateful to the organizations that participated in our Marketplace of Possibilities:

• FirstLight Home Care
• CareLinks Organization
• Silver Wizard

We were also pleased to welcome SKC, Recollectiv, Act 2 Studio Works Inc. and We Can Be as community guests.

A special thank-you goes to our panellists, Dr. Jenny Ingram, Lydia Ireland, and Sharon Chapman-Sheehan, moderator Alexandra Piatkowski, Amy Altwerger, volunteers, supporters and everyone who attended and contributed to such a thoughtful conversation. Together, we are helping reduce stigma and build more informed, supportive and dementia-inclusive communities.

One Conversation Can Make a Difference.

Someone may come to the screening expecting only to watch a documentary. They could leave with helpful information, a meaningful connection or a better understanding of the support available to them or someone they care about.

That is the appeal of the Marketplace of Possibilities. It brings together community resources, practical information and people who understand the realities of dementia and caregiving.
